A proud night for 867 Squadron!

On Monday, 867 (Denny) Squadron had the privilege of welcoming the Regional Commandant, Group Captain Khan, alongside Regional Chief of Staff Ms Hilda Erasmuson, for our Lees Trophy inspection — proudly representing South East Scotland Wing.

The Sir Alan Lees Trophy is awarded annually to the Best Squadron in the Air Training Corps. This year, 867 Squadron was awarded the top squadron in South East Scotland Wing, with this visit allowing the Regional Commandant to select the top squadron in Scotland and Northern Ireland Region.

Cadets got straight into action, taking part in a variety of activities including flight simulation, Blue Space, Leadership assessments, and hands-on first aid scenarios. The visit concluded with cadets and staff getting the opportunity to have a Q&A session with our Regional Commandant.

The evening wrapped up with badge presentations celebrating recent achievements, and a special moment as our Officer Commanding, Flt Lt Wilson, received our official certificate for representing South East Scotland Wing in the Sir Alan Lees Trophy.

A huge thank you to our visiting staff for their time and support — we were proud to showcase the dedication and spirit of 867 Squadron!

International Air Cadet Exchange 🇺🇸✈️🌎

We’re proud to announce that our very own CWO Eden Melvin, has been selected to take part in the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) for 2026 and will be representing both our squadron and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets on an exchange to the USA. 🇺🇸

This is a very prestigious achievement with only three cadets from Scotland and Northern Ireland Region selected to attend IACE this year. CWO Melvin’s selection was based on her achievements in the RAF Air Cadets to this date and an interview with the Regional Commandant, Group Captain Khan.

This trip of a lifetime will involve spending three weeks in the USA, meeting cadets from the US and the rest of the world, as well as an exploring everything that the USA has to offer. During this time she will be an ambassador for 867 Sqn, the wider RAFAC and the UK.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement, the pinnacle of her time in the cadets so far and we wish CWO Melvin the very best on her exciting journey and can’t wait to hear all about it! 👏

The past two weeks have been a big one for our cadets, with plenty of hard work and dedication paying off! Thanks to their commitment and teamwork, a large number of badges were earned across a range of training areas. It’s been great to see everyone pushing themselves and celebrating each other’s achievements.

Three of our cadets headed away on camp where they completed and supported a range of courses from bronze cyber to silver first aid. It was a fantastic opportunity to take on new challenges, build confidence, and strengthen teamwork, and they represented our unit extremely well throughout the experience.

We wrapped it all up this weekend with a packed training weekend, taking part in air rifle training and shooting, blue space, blue leadership, and Senior Cadet Development. 12 cadets also attended and competed for the squadron in the SESW inter-squadron cross country competition. A busy and rewarding period that highlighted the skills, leadership, and motivation of our cadets. Huge well done to everyone involved!

Congratulations to Cadets Gauld and Newton on achieving their Blue badge on the Air Rifle last night.

Both displayed good progression on the Air Rifle with a growing understanding and application of marksmanship principles. As part of the Blue badge training, Gauld and Newton used their skills to get a 5 round grouping within 22mm.

Congratulations!
