🧠 Turn Back the Clock: The Age-Defying Edit
New research published in Nature shows that as we age, the brain becomes less efficient at clearing and maintaining the proteins responsible for communication between brain cells. Over time, this may contribute to slower reaction times, reduced coordination and increased cognitive vulnerability.
But here’s the empowering part:
The brain responds to stimulation.
🧠 Movement
🧠 Balance challenges
🧠 Learning new patterns
🧠 Dual tasking
🧠 Social interaction
These aren’t just “nice extras” — they’re protective.
In our latest Age-Defying Edit, we break down the science in simple terms and explain why consistent, structured exercise that challenges both body and brain is so important after 50.
Move it or Lose it® classes are specifically designed to stimulate the systems that support strength, balance, coordination and cognitive resilience.

Because when it comes to brain health, stimulation is protection.

Mickleover - we are back tomorrow morning. 10am and 11.15am.
Our Class Members Are Bucking the National Trend
Older adults are the least likely to strength train in the UK.
But thanks to the hundreds of members who responded to our latest survey, we know our Move it or Lose it members are bucking the trend. Here’s what we found:
💪 97% are doing strength training at least once a week
💪 47% are doing it twice a week or more
💪 92% feel physically stronger
💪 98% believe strength training is helping them stay independent
And this is what strength looks like in real life:
✔ 70% find getting up from a chair easier
✔ 43% find climbing stairs easier
✔ 42% can walk longer distances
✔ 35% find carrying shopping easier
It’s exactly what Professor Janet Lord describes as one of the most powerful interventions we have to prevent frailty and maintain independence.
Our members aren’t slowing down.
They’re getting stronger.

⏳ Can exercise really slow down physical decline as we age?
New long-term research says yes — and consistency is the key.
A community-based study following older adults for up to five years found that people who stuck with regular exercise maintained — and in some cases improved — their fitness compared to normal ageing trends.
No extremes. No quick fixes.
Just regular, supported movement in a friendly community.
In our latest Age-Defying Edit, we break down what the science tells us — and why community exercise plays such a powerful role in staying strong, confident and independent for longer.
