Today's wonderful wednesday group did equestrian week! Today's session was all about learning the needs of a pony and helping set the stables up for them. The children all took turns using the different equipment to help muck out, we helped get straw for their bedding and learnt how ponies always need a food source handy. After we had fresh beds ready, we watched the ponies come in from the field, which left plenty of time for some well earnt grooming, loving and time to bond with them 🐎 ❤️

🚜 FREE TRACTOR RIDES, A FUN DOG SHOW, PETTING FARM, FAMILY GAMES… AND A WHOLE LOT OF TRACTORS!🐶🌾

The Burton Ploughing & Hedge Laying Match is back on Saturday 5th September and it’s shaping up to be a brilliant day out for the whole family!

🌾This year, the conditions are set to add an extra challenge to the competition…

After weeks of dry weather, the ground is HARD. It’s going to make for some challenging conditions and really put the skill of the ploughmen and women to the test. Who will manage to turn out the best furrows on the day? 👀🚜

But behind all the fun is something really important.

This is about supporting our local farmers. The people who work all year round, whatever the weather throws at them, caring for our countryside and putting food on our tables.

By coming along and supporting the event, you’re helping to celebrate our local farming community and keep traditions like the Burton Ploughing Match going for the next generation. 💚

Our Wednesday wild roots group enjoyed a night of farm life. We weighed all the lambs that were bottle fed (they're so big now!) And had a go at measuring out water to do exact measurements. We also helped look after some of the other animals and enjoyed learning all about how farm life works.
We cant forget to say a huge thankyou as our session is made possible thanks to the national lottery players!

Our wonderful wednesday group had farm week today! We got to watch Rosie (one of the sheepdogs) do her job by rounding in the ewes and lambs ready for weigh day! The children got to practise Rosies calls, see if they could guess the weight of the lambs and watch how they're health inspected at the same time.
There was also plenty of time for duckling cuddles, chicken snuggles and to help catch two cheeky piggies who took their opportunity for an escape trick 🫣😂 don't worry all were safely put back where they belong!

Our hobby horse fitness groups today had a day of leg work! We allowed the children to jump freely over the poles to see which is there favoured and most dominant leg they use. We then got them to exercise and see if they could strengthen their opposite leg. We then had a go at going in different directions, swapping their leading leg each way. The children at first found this tricky but soon they were building strength in both legs!
We are only able to run these sessions for FREE due to funding from Sports England which we are very grateful to! 🐎

Tuesday SEND session this morning had a very farm inspired craft. We made farm animals out of toilet paper, gave our ducklings lots of snuggles and had lots of fuss from the pigs, sheep and goats! Lots of fun had all round! 😁

Our wild roots ran again tonight and had a fab session learning about the correct ways to groom a pony, creating some fantastic pictures and signs, and getting the ducklings extra friendly.

Our wonderful wednesday home ed group had a very fun session this morning. Each week there is a theme such as farm, forest, equestrian and nature, but every so often we end up with a fith month and they become free play sessions. The children decided they wanted to set up their own little pokemon and game card table, where they could show off their skills, compare cards and swap unwanted cards (proper little entrepreneurs in the making!) We also had lots of games out (one of our children even got all the tetris pieces on all at once, which is very unheard of!) We had a car made our of tyres, lots of sandpit fun and of course lots and lots of animals to snuggle, feed and groom.
