LET’S REMIND TOURISM N.I. THAT IF THEY DEEM, OUR FOYLE CUP EVENT, DOES NOT MEET THEIR CRITERIA FOR FUNDING, THEN THEY NEED TO LOOK AT THE CRITERIA WHICH PROMOTES SUCH UNACCEPTABLE DISCRIMINATION EVERY YEAR.
So Folks, as many of you know, the ONeills Foyle Cup, which annually takes place in North West is the biggest, by far, event in the district and annually is not funded by Tourism NI.
Each year an application is made by the organising committee and each year we are told, that using their assessment criteria, the Foyle Cup does not deserve funding.
Anyone who has witnessed what was delivered this week- in terms of the number bed-nights occupied on a full board basis; the number of teams entered; the number of visitors from all over the world; the 20,000 participants; over 200,000 spectators; such a hugely attended event, there is traffic congestion across the district throughout the week; so well attended drivers struggle to find parking spaces close to tournament venues; 260 referees present from all over the world; an economic spend of £10,000,000 in north west over the week!
Tourism NI, your total disrespect for our event, will not deter us from our goals annually- to provide a wonderful, exciting cross community event for kids, families which delivers for our local business- cafes, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, retail shops, bars, taxis, local vendors at venues, sports shops, bus and minibus hire companies … the list goes on.
We will not be deterred! We will continue to deliver. We will continue to call on Tourism NI to recognise not just the success of the event from many, if not all perspectives,
Support us by echoing your continuing disappointment about the bias shown against our voluntary efforts and the biggest event in north west, especially when it comes to funding! Like and share this post and e mail Tourism NI informing them of your feelings.
Do it now please,
