Part 2 - the older lot...

🔴 U12s played North Pertherwin in the first game of the season
The game did not start how we hoped with the opposition scoring and taking advantage of our slow start.
Going into half time already well out of the game we focused on starting again as a team and improving for the second half, credit to the team as the second half was 100x better than the first only conceding 1 goal in the second half whilst creating plenty of opportunities unlucky to not put one away

🔴 U13s had a home tie against Charlestown Choughs in the early kickoff this morning, going down to 7-0 defeat by the end.
Despite the scoreline there were plenty of positives in our game. The attitude, communication and support of eachother was 100x better than our previous fixture.
Freddie and Monty in particular showing excellent leadership to encourage and advise the team.
Our forward link play was really good at times, Taylor, Charlie and Freddie linked brilliantly with Elsa down the left who produced a number of dangerous balls into the box.
And defensively we looked organised, Paige and Noah did well to break up and block multiple attacks.
With some added conviction at times and a little more luck we should have a bit more joy in front of goal if we play like this again.

🔴 U14s took a heavy loss away to Southgate with the match finishing 10-1.
Not an easy first game but we applaud the workrate of every player, especially Arthur, Fin and Henry.
It’s not easy to keep going when we are up against a really good team who seemed impossible to break down.
Plenty to take away and work on and shape ourselves better for games to come, playing the right ball at the right time, whether we held on too long, just tried too much or didn’t take long enough and panicked.
Thankfully we kept going and trying, getting a goal that we deserved with Josh finding the net for his first goal and our first of the season.

🔴 Dobwalls U15s took on Lanivet at home in the afternoon, a really promising start to our season despite a narrow 3-2 defeat in a close game.
We seemed to be a lot more aware of where everyone was on the pitch and every player put in a massive shift.
We found ourselves trailing 2-0 relatively early in the game but that didn’t seem to matter to the players.. they rallied round and were determined to get back in to the game and pulled 2 back before halftime! We probably should have scored a 3rd but a lack of communication let us down.
The 2nd half was more end to end and the game looked like it was heading for a draw which would probably of been the fairest outcome but Lanivet scored the winner with minimal time left to play.
A really good game of football to watch and I think we are only going to get better as team.

🔴 U18s travelled to Devonport High 4G pitch to face YMCA All Saints.
Today was a harsh lesson in U18s football and with a 10-0 loss we can’t sit and say we were unlucky, the ref was poor or they scored a lucky goal.... they were simply a stronger more determined side.
We didn’t compete again for the first or second ball and it wasn’t until the 75th minute that we did.
I’ll never fault the commitment and effort put in and their coach praised the lads for their determination until the end.
🤩 PotM: Ollie Gleed with a great performance and did not deserve to be on the losing side.
👐 Opposition PotM: Shyam who had some fantastic stops, his double save was outstanding at any level of football.
Keep our heads up as we go next week with a cup game against Dobwalls U18 side at home. I’m sure it will be a big occasion at the club and I’d love to see as many supporters there as we can get.

Gunna need to split the weekend roundup into two posts!!

Part 1 - the younger lot...

🔴 U8s took a trip to Wadebridge for their first ever match!
We’re so proud of the U8s team - they all performed fantastically and should be super proud of themselves.
We were unlucky today but had very strong individual performances. Our goal scorers were Josh, Joel, Reggie and Rory with superb strikes including one from a corner!
Oscar as my attacking midfielder had some class attempts and was a vital player with his speed on the pitch. Great passing plays in the midfield with Ayda and Jaiden, brilliant from them. Then to my brick walls in defence Bobby, Jake and Reggie battled hard throughout the game making crucial blocks to stop the opposition when needed. We also had great bravery and determination from the 3 goalkeepers today Rory, Jaiden and Oscar all making inspiring saves with their quick reactions along with their excellent distribution to the outfield players.

🔴 Dobwalls U9s took on St Mawgan at home this morning and had a tough one against a good football team... we were clearly a bit rusty after the summer break.
We really struggled to implement what has brought us so much success over the last 2 seasons and that is our passing game. Our awareness to man mark and over committing to many players to tackle 1 opposition player meant we were leaving huge gaps at the back which St Mawgan exploited to their benefit.
It took us 30 minutes to wake up and for the last 10 minutes we finally started to play how we should have played all game but unfortunately the damage was already done!
Lots to work on but I must say how proud I was of all the players for never giving up!

🔴 U10s went down to a defeat at home to Indian Queens.
We started the game fairly well creating several chances with Dex working tirelessly upfront, unfortunately there just periods throughout the game where we switched off and those moments always seemed to end up with us conceding, especially in the 3rd quarter where we shipped 4 goals.. there was a good fight back in the last quarter and a lovely ball from Enzo set dex up who finished it brilliantly, not enough to get us a result tho.

🔴 U11s started the season against the well drilled Charlestown Falcons.
The first two quarters saw some great end to end football with both sides having chances but neither could break the deadlock.
Against the run of play, Charlestown won a corner, and a well low driven cross was deflected in for the home side to take the lead. This set up a thrilling final quarter where Dobwalls threw everything at it, hitting the crossbar and having two cleared off the line but it was not to be. Great game played in the right spirits, and great to see the lads back out there!
⚽️⚽️ CPOTM and SPOTM both going to Levi for some outstanding midfield display.

A midweek start to the season for our U13 Girls, playing against Looe in the opening league match of the season...

🔴 A fantastic start to the league season with strong result against a committed and rapidly improving Looe team.
The first half saw 3 quick goals from Maia the poacher, all great finishes from some instinctive positioning in and around the box.
Our general play was a little forced however, we didnt quite link up or release as quickly or smoothly as we can and it was a challenge for the 2nd half to make more use of wide areas and throughballs.
It was pleasing to see much more of that in the 2nd period, several moves from back to front with some quick short sharp pass and move football.
4 more goals for Tingos came, with the highlight being Gracie's curling effort into the far corner of the goal from just outside the area, great strike!

4 matches this weekend with league action kicking off for 2 of our teams...

🔴 U13s had a tough away trip to Bude in their opening match of the U13 Premiership. We really failed to get out of the blocks from kickoff and some lapses in concentration cost us badly as Bude raced into a 5-0 lead.
Going in a half time, a reset was required - reclaim the focus, play with some intelligence, up the communication and get the simple things right.
The second half was a much improved performance, we still conceded ground and chances, but the focus was 100x better and there were moments of quality that show we are more than capable. No goals conceded in the second half to provide some positives to build on.

🔴 U14s had their last pre-season friendly against Biscovey at Home.
With our focus on shape and getting the ball down, the kids played some really good football at times and the first half especially we played the better football.
Unfortunately we got punished with a few lapses and a simple ball over the top or quick counter attack or even a couple of freak goals cleared high into the air and dropping in.
We kept trying to play our football and showed some good determination to play some combinations play and was good to see the ideas being made but another day we would have better luck.
Very happy with the performances again and looking good into the first game of the season next week!

🔴 U15s refreshed/new team took on St Cleer & Liskeard U14s in a pre-season friendly.
With only a few training sessions as prep, some mistakes were inevitable and many of the goals conceded today came from our own doing.
When got the ball on the floor we played some brilliant football. What impressed me the most about the lads was at no point did our heads drop and we were easily the better team in the final quarter and I’m incredibly proud of them all!
Lots and lots of positives to take from today and I’m really positive about the season.

🔴 U18s took on Saltash Wolves away in their first league match of the season, coming away with a 2-0 defeat to a good side.
It was a tough first half battling the wind against us so the defence and our keeper was busy but coped very well.
The opening goal was a very good headed goal from their corner, to which sometimes you have to applaud the finish rather than criticise ourselves. We fought very hard and went in at half time 1-0 down.
After half time we competed more in the air, played some good balls down the channels and had them pushed back a bit more.
We pressed very well without the ball in the second half and good hard work from Oscar, Mack, Zak and Elliot in midfield. Noah and Ryan put good shifts in upfront supported by Miles, Reuben and Olivier.
We went 2-0 down midway through the second half which seemed slightly harsh after Shyam made a good save. Ellis, George and the back 4 all battled well all game. We look forward to next week to go again.

Two friendly matches this morning in Dobwalls with U13s taking on Perranporth and U14s tackling St Blazey Lions.

🔴 U13s hosted Perranporth Timberwolves in a final preseason friendly before season start.
Very grateful to our opponents for coming at short notice and they provided excellent opposition.

For us it was a great performance, the movement with and without the ball was really good and use of wide areas, particularly first half, was exactly what we practised at training recently.
Great to see Noah and Monty back in action after missing our previous friendly, both showing what superb defenders they can be in their body position in 1v1s, blocking shots and distrubution from feet.
A debut for Preston in midfield who showed great determination and skill to keep control of central areas and drive us forward.
And another debut with Dougie who was purely tasked to show no fear, be confident and take on positional guidance. He met these challenges well and showed a good touch and pass when he was able to get on the ball.
🤝 Joint PotM for Ollie and Freddie today. A hattrick for Ollie and two for Freddie, with them assisting eachother between goals.

🔴 U14s played St Blazey Lions who were very well set up and exploited every opportunity they got today including dangerous set pieces and goal kicks.
We took our time and for 60 mins we allowed them to play and settle into the game too easily, looking lethargic at times and missed something in the middle.
There were sparks throughout in Cam who was strong and looked dangerous, Fin was rock solid as usual, Barney and Isaac done well on the wings we just didn’t get the ball to them enough.
Fair to say we weren’t at our best today and conceeded some freak goals that you can’t do anything about sometime.
Plenty to take from today and a welcome to Brendan in goal for his first ever outing. Can’t wait to see what he can bring to the team going forwards. 👐 One more to go before season start!

One friendly match today in Dobwalls as the U14s prep for the new season takes shape, taking on St Day Smelters this morning in the sunshine.

🔴 What an amazing result today. The performance and attitude throughout and what a difference we’ve seen from some of previous games.
Last 2 friendlies played against top division sides last season and only being 1 goal in it, showing some fight today that may have taken St Day by surprise!
It’s a great performance to carry into the season!

With only one sub to manage the heat and quick tempo of the game was rough and managing some injuries I have to applaud them all and a massive thanks again to Connie, our U13 keeper for stepping in and didn’t look out of place and made some great saves and looked solid. Our player of the match 👐

Our goal came from continued pressure and aerial battles we won when Arthur’s headed effort came off the bar and rebounded in by Henry.
We were unfortunate not to grab a second in the last 10 mins where we had 2 or 3 chances.
