⛳🌱 Maintenance Week Complete – Course Now Fully Open 🌱⛳ After a busy few days out on the course, our Autumn Maintenance Week is complete and all 18 holes are now open!

A huge thank you to James and our greenkeeping team for their hard work throughout the week. Greens have been hollow tined, Solid tined to around 8 inches, rolled, seeded, fertilised, top dressed and brushed in. Aprons and Tees have been scarified, solid tined, seeded, top dressed, brushed in and fertilised.

The team have covered a huge amount of ground carrying out the essential work needed to keep our greens, tees and aprons healthy and performing at their best in the months ahead.

👏 We’d also like to thank our members and visitors for their patience and understanding while the work has been taking place.

The course is now fully open, with tee times available to book on BRS as normal.

Great work, team – and now it’s time to get back out there and enjoy the course ⛳

⛳🦅 The great golf continues at Came Down – what an incredible finish!

We’ve had course records, holes in one and albatrosses to celebrate recently… and now we can add an eagle-eagle finish to the list!

This brilliant story was sent to us by member Malcolm Lucas, following Monday’s regular matchplay battle between Malcolm and Cliff Diffey against Mike Mitchell and Brian Hansford.

Standing on the 15th tee, Malcolm and Cliff were dormy four and seemingly in control. But Mike had other ideas…

⛳ 15th – a fortunate bounce followed by two putts
⛳ 16th – regulation par
🦅 17th – Mike drove the green and sank the putt for his first-ever eagle
🦅 18th – from the rough, he struck a fantastic 7 wood towards the green… straight into the hole for another eagle!

Eagle. Eagle. Match all square 👏

As Malcolm put it, it’s a finish he’s pretty sure hasn’t happened before and may never happen again!

And the remarkable golf continued during Saturday’s Monthly Stableford, with not one but two holes in one 🎯

👏 Congratulations to Alexander Campbell, who aced the 2nd hole, and Stewart Farrell, who recorded his hole in one on the 10th.

⛳ Meet Our New Assistant Professional – Wes Caines 👋

We’re delighted to welcome Wes Caines to the team at Came Down Golf Club as our new Assistant Professional.

Wes joins us having completed the first two years of his PGA training at Sherborne and brings with him a real passion for both golf and coaching.

Having grown up in a family of golfers, Wes has played from a young age and, after spending a gap year teaching in Australia, discovered a passion for combining the two.

His approach to coaching is friendly, relaxed and tailored to the individual – whether you’re completely new to golf, looking for a few simple changes to improve your game or want to delve deeper into the technical side using technology such as the Garmin R10 Launch Monitor.

Away from coaching, Wes enjoys competing in Pro-Ams, playing courses across the South West and representing his club in PGA events.

Wes officially starts on Monday, so if you see him, be sure to pop in and say hello 👋

There’s an enormous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to present and maintain our course throughout the year. From those early starts and changing weather conditions to the day-to-day care, preparation and attention to detail – their hard work can be seen across every part of the course.

We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication of James and the entire greenkeeping team in looking after our historic downland course and continually striving to provide the best possible playing conditions for our members and visitors.

Our annual Course Maintenance Week is just around the corner.

During the week, our greenkeeping team will be carrying out essential work to keep our greens, tees and aprons in the best possible condition for the months ahead.

This includes aerating the greens, overseeding and top dressing - helping to improve drainage, reduce compaction, encourage healthier turf and create smoother, stronger playing surfaces.

While there may be some temporary disruption, this vital work plays a huge part in maintaining the excellent course conditions that members and visitors enjoy throughout the year.

⛳ Please note:
• Online BRS bookings will be unavailable during the maintenance period
• A roll-up system (first come, first served) will operate on either the front or back nine, depending on the day's work
• Please check Club V1 and the Course Information Board for daily updates
