Yesterday was match day for the team against St. Andrews University. Unfortunately, the result 5.5-2.5 St Andrews, was not what they hoped for, but all good experience and some excellent food to finish the day. A couple of shots of Fergus hitting into the par 3 on the 9th, with 50mph wind gusts off the sea and heavy rain 😱 At least the new UHI beanies kept them all warm.

A good turn out for the away day at Castle Stuart Golf Links, Scotland.

The UHI Golf team recently played Northumbria University and secured a 5-3 win. A great photo of the team and their loyal supporters on the 18th Green at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Struie course. Well done team. 👏👏

Last week the UHI Golf Team competed in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Premier League North Division match, against University of Stirling. Not the result the team hoped for, but a great experience all the same. Thanks to all the students who turned up to support the team 👏

📢 Important Update for Students 📢

All our campuses and centres will be open as normal on Thursday 5 October during planned strike action by the UNISON trade union.

There may be some impact on campus services because of the strike action involving members of support staff. Opening and closing times may be restricted at our Dornoch campus. We expect to open around 8.45am.

The strike action relates to a national dispute impacting colleges across Scotland. If you have questions or concerns, please speak to your PAT, lecturer, or contact us via the red button.

Well done to 3rd year Professional Golf student, Ewan, who placed 2nd in the men’s event of the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Autumn Trophy 2023/24.

Also, a shout out to 2nd year Professional Golf student, Parneet, who placed 8th in the women’s event.

Congratualtions to Ollietillgolf who graduated with a BA(Hons) in Professional Golf. 👏 Between 3rd and 4th year, Ollie completed a work placement at Yellowstone Club and has now secured employment as a full-time Assistant Professional. Well done Ollie and all the best in the future. ⛳️

Graduation Stories 🎓⛳

Gregor Ramsay (27), from Glasgow, studied the Diploma of Higher Education Professional Golf, a partnership between UHI and The PGA. He studied online while working as an assistant professional at Strathaven Golf Club in South Lanarkshire. As part of his studies, he took part in a five-day residential at The Belfry, the PGA National Golf Course 🏌️‍♂️.

“It was really good, but you’ve got to be committed when you’re working full-time. It was fun. Next year I’m hoping to become a full member of the PGA and try and become a head professional.”

This week, Curriculum Leader, Alan and Professional Golf Students, Harry and Sean, ventured to Woburn to the Titleist Performance Centre for the Student of the Year award, courtesy of Titleist UK & Ireland. A great time was had by all and Alan almost bagged himself a hole in one ⛳️ photographic evidence is in the last photo, confirmed by Harry and Sean 🤣

Julie and the team have been busy getting set up for our Celebration of Success and Achievement in Thurso tomorrow! 🎉

➕ 11am - Registration opens in the Pentland Hotel
➕ 1pm – All students must be registered and in the Pentland Hotel for a briefing
➕ 12.30pm - Church opens. All guests must be seated by 1.30pm
➕ 2pm - Ceremony starts

Many congratulations to Louis Fleming of Haggs Castle Golf Club who is the winner of this year's GGU Order of Merit. Louis's consistency this season has seen him regularly clocking up points in OOM events and helped to put him in pole position going into the final event of the series, the Glasgow Open Championship. His runner -up finish in the GO ensured his first title with the highest number of OOM points we have had in over 5 years. A tremendous achievement for the young player 😀 Well done Louis 👍

Monday was pitch mark repair day. Over 30 students turned up to help, which meant a group on both courses. Not the most glamourous way to spend a Monday, but necessary to ensure the course is kept in good condition. Thank you to everyone who lent a hand 😀 Royal Dornoch Golf Club

Last week the students were busy working on their Applied Coaching module. Thank you to the 3 lovely volunteers who spent the afternoon being coached 😃

Due to the poor weather over the last few weeks, the students have made good use of the simulators to hold their Wednesday competitions. They played the Real Club Valderrama and the Old Course at St Andrews, via the tournament mode on the Trackman.

Prize giving photos from the BUCS West of Scotland event. Congratulations to Ewan, Taylor and Jack for the team win. A shout out to Finlay who had a play off to secure his score for the team win. Congratulations again to Taylor for his individual result of third place.

On Wednesday, the UHI team travelled to Western Gailes Golf Club to compete in the BUCS West of Scotland event. It was a successful trip, with the team winning the event by 2 shots and 8 of the squad in the top 20 in the individual event. Congratulations team 👏⛳️
