As the Sandy Pipey Young Masters returns to the Championship Course this weekend, we’ll be remembering two much-loved characters – legendary caddie Sandy “Pipey” Matheson and Don Greenberg, the man who suggested naming the event in Pipey’s honour and supported it for many years.

Sadly, Don passed away earlier this week. His love for Dornoch, golf and the Matheson family left a lasting mark on the club and this tournament.

This weekend’s young professionals will once again play for a place in the history of an event that has been part of Royal Dornoch life since 1989.

Judy Murray’s first round on our Championship Course lived up to expectations.

Playing with Lady Captain Rosemary Muschamp, Alison Bartlett and Geordie Gunn, Judy loved her first taste of Royal Dornoch, from the humps and bumps of the fairways to the spectacular views across the Dornoch Firth.

A passionate advocate for getting more girls into sport, Judy was also impressed by the work being done at the club to introduce local youngsters to golf.

Having only discovered golf four years ago, she’s now “totally hooked” and already looking forward to coming back.

A special day at Royal Dornoch as we celebrated 30 years since women became full members of the club.

More than 80 members gathered for a celebratory dinner with special guest Judy Murray OBE, who also took to the Championship Course earlier in the day for a Mixed Greensomes.

Past Lady Captains, club President Alan Ramsey and Christine Murray – the club’s first female vice-president and first woman to serve on the Council of Management – were among those marking this important milestone.

From a proud history of women’s golf to a thriving Ladies Section with 479 members today, there was plenty to celebrate.

Today is Day – a chance to recognise our fantastic team who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our courses in such great shape.

At Royal Dornoch, Alexander “Dander” Richardson has been part of the greenkeeping team for almost 20 years. But when his pager goes off, he swaps his tractor for a fire engine.

Dander is a retained firefighter with Dornoch Fire Station, providing vital cover for the local community and across the Highlands. It’s a remarkable commitment, made possible by the support of Royal Dornoch and his fellow greenkeepers.

In the latest instalment of our Monday Memories series, past captain Willie MacKay sits down with lifelong member Duncan Bethune, who sadly passed away in June.

A two-time Club Champion, Duncan looks back on a lifetime at Royal Dornoch – from his childhood in the town and playing football for Brora Rangers, to caddying for the Duke of Sutherland and the characters and stories that shaped the club.

There are plenty of laughs along the way, including a memorable case of mistaken identity and Duncan’s wonderfully honest verdict when Willie asks if the Duke was a fair golfer.

Duncan also reflects on his involvement with the Juniors committee and how proud he was to see it grow into the thriving programme it is today.

Nearly £70,000 raised and two fantastic Highland charities supported. 💙

Thanks to the generosity of Royal Dornoch members and guests, the Captains’ Charity Fund has raised a remarkable £68,413 for Mikeysline and the East Sutherland Rescue Association over the past two years.

Immediate Past Captain Gary Bethune and Ladies Captain Rosemary Muschamps chose the two charities, with fundraising events, auctions and generous donations helping to deliver a fantastic total.

Gary presented £40,000 to Mikeysline, while Rosemary handed over £28,413 to ESRA... money that will make a real difference to two organisations doing hugely important work across the Highlands.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. 👏
