Families have continued to use the beach frequently since the end of summer!

As the days get shorter and temperatures get colder, there have still been sandcastles on the beach every single day! To win bathing water status for Killough, it's important we show that there is frequent use of the beach.

A large number of rusty nails have been found on the beach!

As part of our cleanup yesterday, Councillor Enright's son CadÓg brought his metal detector, and uncovered large amounts of rusty nails along the beach.

An important part of our campaign is ensuring the beach is clean and accessible for everyone to use- if you're interested in getting involved, we're planning more beach cleans in the future, so follow the page for more information, or send us a message!

Friends of Killough/Cairde gCill Locha organised a beach clean today as part of our campaign to protect the Natural and Built environment of the village.

Killough beach has missed out on the last round of beach awards in 2016 where beaches in Kilclief, Ballyhornan, Minerstown and Tyrella all achieved a status that makes clean water free of pollution from NIWater a legal requirement. We aim to revive this campaign and keep the photo record required to prove this beach is used for swimming, recreation , diving and many other water sports and win the same water testing regime as in Kilclief.

We want the Phase 2 of the Ardtole sewerage scheme delivered which was to ensure that Killough and Coney Island waste water treatment sites were piped to Ardtole and treated at level 3 and not at level 1 or 2 at the moment.
