Here is just a tiny example of what you can expect in our warehouse sale!

Is your disc brake rotor slowing you down?

Hopefully! 😀

However we wanted to understand the impact of different front rotor sizes and types, as well as the impact of aero rotor covers on aerodynamics in a race setup. We made two rotor aero covers for a 140mm rotor, a flat cover and a lenticular cover to see if there was any aero benefit to completely covering the rotor.

You can find the full write up on the Learn section of our website 💻 but here is a summary:

Out of the 7 rotors that we tested (Shimano, SRAM & TRP), all the 160mm rotors had a slightly higher drag than the 140mm rotors, but the difference was extremely small, on average 0.3w for all the 160mm vs all the 140mm, getting close to the margin of error for the wind tunnel when testing bike only setups.

We also made two rotor covers to fit the CL900 140mm, a 1.8mm thick version ("Flat"), and a convex version which tapered down to the face of the rotor ("Lenticular").

When testing rotor covers, it is possible that allowing the air to flow in between the rotor is important, which may be why the RT800 rotor is less aerodynamic than the CL900 (the RT800 rotor itself is more filled in than the CL900). When the CL900 was covered with both the Flat and Lenticular covers the aerodynamic drag was higher than with no cover (a negligible 0.1-0.2w).

Is 140mm big enough for road applications anyway, making 160mm rotors unnecessary regardless of any aero differences? 🧐 Regardless of what you might choose, we hope you enjoyed this little data set! 🙂

AeroCoach warehouse sale!

On 27th September we will have a sale of a huge range of ex demo/used components and equipment, not just AeroCoach products, as well as a Strava segment competition to win AeroCoach vouchers 🙂

Here's another workshop shot of the new 2027 Blitz handlebars for track.

Ultra stiff with the aero cross brace, they are fully UCI compliant under the 2027 regulations and feature a 70mm drop & 350mm width. Orders for 2027 Blitz bars will open soon, please stay tuned 🙂
