Due to Glasgow Rangers Charity walk clashing with our walk up Ben Lomond we have changed our plan.

After many weeks of positive discussions and planning, Dumbarton Riverside Football Club are delighted to announce plans to merge with Dumbarton United Football Club ahead of the new season.

For years, both clubs have proudly served the young people and families of Dumbarton, building strong football traditions, lasting friendships, and unforgettable memories. While there has always been a healthy rivalry between the two clubs, we have also shared the same passion — giving local children and young people the opportunity to play, develop, and enjoy football in a safe, inclusive, and community-focused environment.

Like many grassroots clubs across the country, we have faced challenges in recent years around sustainability and recruiting new age groups. To ensure a strong future for football in our town, we believe coming together is the right step forward.

The proposed merger will create a stronger, more sustainable club that can continue to provide opportunities for boys, girls, disability football, coaches, volunteers, and families for many years to come.

As part of this process, Dumbarton Riverside Football Club will shortly call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to formally begin the dissolution of the current club structure, allowing the new merged club to move forward from this summer.

We want to thank every player, parent, coach, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who has been part of Dumbarton Riverside’s journey over the years. The club’s history and achievements will always remain an important part of football in Dumbarton.

This is not the end of a story — it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

More details about the new club, including name, branding, teams, and plans for the future, will be shared in the coming weeks.

We hope to keep the memory of the club alive, currently we would be grateful for old photos and memories from those who have played and volunteered for the club. If you have some stories or old pics, please get in touch.

Also, looking to start off the new merged club on a strong path we would be grateful for any fundraising, grant or sponsorship ideas or suggestions.
