Wilder have a few remaining spaces on their Coastal adventure camps for 9-14 year olds on the 20-23rd July. We'll be exploring Belhaven Bay, it's range of micro-habitats and wildlife over the week. These are a great opportunity for young people to enjoy the beach through hands on learning, games and coastal bushcraft skills. Our coastal camps are led by experienced outdoor educators (forest school leader/teachers) with Marine Biology expertise (BSc Marine biology). Our coastal adventurers meet at the Belhaven Surf Centre. Our afternoon start time also allows you to squeeze in some water time with Coast to Coast Surf School who are running junior surf camps over the summer.
Head to www.wilderoutdooreducation.co.uk for more info and booking.

๐ What a weekend at Belhaven Surf Centre! ๐
During the last weekend in May Dunbar Surf Lifesaving Club were delighted to host the SLSGB Scottish Lifesaving Roadshow in Dunbar, welcoming George Haynes and Nigel Bowden from the Surf Lifesaving GB HQ team.
The roadshow brought together clubs from across Scotland and the North of England, including Aberdeen SLSC, North Sea Volunteer Lifeguards and Blue Coast Surf Club, all with the shared goal of developing surf lifesaving skills and promoting water safety.
Friday kicked off with an ocean training session, including micro-teaching on board racing techniques and fast water entries. Saturday focused on further coaching development, with candidates completing practical assessments for Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Awards, as well as Trainer Assessor qualifications.
A huge thank you to George and Nigel for sharing their expertise. George has represented Great Britain in lifesaving 11 times, captained the GB Lifesaving Team, and holds both European and Australian titles. Nigel, SLSGBโs National Events Manager, plays a key role in delivering pool and surf national events across the country.
Great training, great conditions, and great people coming together to strengthen surf lifesaving in Scotland. ๐ค

Save the date - Wednesday 22nd April!
Water quality and Plastic pollution are of concern for communities around Edinburgh and the Lothians as we head into the May Elections at Holyrood.
are hosting an event on Wednesday 22nd April at the Food Court in Edinburgh College, Milton Road Site at 6.30pm as they discuss with candidates what they and their parties will do to tackle water quality, single-use plastic and the circular economy.
03/03/2026
The latest of Februaryโs weekly water quality testing results are back from the lab and showing another month of โexcellentโ water quality at Belhaven.
40 out of 49 (81.63%) of the tests taken since April 2025 have shown โgoodโ or โexcellentโ water quality and 39 out of 49 (79.59%) have shown โexcellentโ.
Thatโs good news for Belhaven but may not be representative of the hundreds of places where people swim, paddle or surf across Scotland. Water quality is only tested at 89 officially designated bathing waters and those are only tested by SEPA between 1st June and 15th September. When SEPA pick new places to test, only swimmers are counted as water users, meaning that surfing, kayaking and stand-op paddle boarding sports go untested. Testing also covers just two pollutants - E.coli and intestinal enterococci- ignoring emerging threats from PFAS, antibiotics-resistant bacteria and microplastics.
are calling for policies that protect water users wherever, whenever and however they use the water.
