East Island is set! 🧗♂️
The problems are up, the starting holds are tagged… but we’ve flipped the bronze tags around for now. 👀
For the next week, the grades are staying hidden.
Have a look at the line, feel your way through the movement, and see what you think the problem is worth to you — without worrying too much about what the number on the tag says.
Because while grades give us a useful common language for talking about difficulty, they’re never quite as objective as they might seem. A grade starts with someone’s judgement of how difficult a problem feels, and over time that judgement is shaped by other climbers’ experiences and opinions.
So maybe this week is a chance to have those conversations too. What did you find hard? What felt easy? What would you give it? Share beta, encourage your mates, compare experiences and see how differently we can experience the same problem.
Most importantly, we hope it gives everyone a chance to focus on the line, the holds, the movement, the problem solving — and what you’re learning from the climb, rather than chasing a number.
We’ll flip the tags around in a week and reveal what we thought the grades were.
