Tonight saw us begin our league campaign with Ferry Athletic Yellows the opposition a side who have had the better of us in our last couple of meetings.

Before the game, we asked the boys to believe in themselves.

We know they have shown that, on their day, they can compete with anyone, and tonight was another opportunity to prove that.

Credit to Ferry, they won the toss and chose to turn the teams around so they could have the wind at their backs.

They came flying out of the traps and put us under a lot of pressure during the opening 10 minutes. However, the boys stood firm, defended well and weathered the early storm.

With one of our first real attacks, we won a penalty.
Unfortunately, we couldn't convert from the spot, but that seemed to give the boys a bit of belief and we soon took the lead midway through the first half.

Ferry responded and managed to find an equaliser before half-time, leaving the game finely balanced going into the break.

We conceded an early goal in the second half, but once again the boys showed great character. Rather than letting their heads drop, they bounced back quickly and turned the game around to take a 3-2 lead.

The game then became a little scrappy for 5–10 minutes as tiredness started to creep in.

Ferry seemed to have more energy as we moved into the latter stages and unfortunately we eventually found ourselves 6-3 down.

That was disappointing, as there were definitely moments where we could have defended better and made it more difficult for Ferry to score.

However, the boys never stopped fighting. We managed to grab another goal back and even hit the post from a fantastic free-kick as we continued to push right until the final whistle.

Overall, Ferry probably just about deserved the win, as they were better in some of the key moments, but we have to give our boys a lot of credit for the effort and character they showed throughout the game.

They played their part in what was an entertaining and competitive game of football.

There are certainly plenty of learnings for us to take from tonight, especially as we adjust to a new league setup and a higher level of football.

We know there is plenty to work on, but the important thing is that we keep believing, keep working hard in training and keep improving together.

Heads up, boys lots more football to come. ⚽️💛🖤

Our final group game saw us travel to Brechin today to face a team full of confidence following a big victory last week.

We should also have gone into the game full of confidence after an impressive win last weekend and a really positive week of training.
Unfortunately, we started slowly and credit to Brechin, who came flying out the traps, pressed us from the first whistle and showed real hunger, knowing they needed the win.

We didn’t show the same aggression, desire or intensity that we had shown the previous week and found ourselves chasing the game, going in 4-1 down at half-time.

Five changes were made at the break, with the message clear be more aggressive, win first contact and get the next goal.

Credit to the boys, as for around 20 minutes of the second half we pinned Brechin back, created chances, hit the woodwork twice and looked like we could get ourselves back into the game.

Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find that goal that would have given us the lift and momentum we needed. Credit to Brechin, who defended their lead well and managed the game effectively.

Both teams scored late goals, but overall there can be no complaints, Brechin deserved the win based on their first-half performance.

Credit to our players, though. They have progressed through what has been a tough group, faced plenty of challenges and continued to develop as a team.

Today wasn’t our day, but it’s another learning experience and one we’ll take forward.

Now all focus turns to Tuesday as our league campaign begins.

Game number three in the League Cup saw us face a very good DUSC side in what turned out to be a competitive, physical and entertaining game.

There were a few nerves early on, but once things settled down and we showed a bit more composure in our play, we started to look more confident. The boys began to believe that we could compete with a strong DUSC side, and after a good passage of play, we took the lead.

DUSC responded strongly, though, and two quick-fire goals before half time saw us go into the break 2–1 down. Despite that, the boys never let their heads drop. We reminded them that as long as we stayed in the game and gave ourselves a chance going into the later stages, we would have an opportunity to get something from it.

Unfortunately, after another poor reaction to a second ball on the edge of the box, we found ourselves 3–1 down.

Full credit to the boys, though they never let their heads drop and responded almost immediately. Another good switch of play and a good finish brought us back into the game.

You could sense the belief growing within the group as we entered the later stages, and we eventually found the equaliser from a free kick. From there, both teams continued to work incredibly hard in what was becoming a really good physical and competitive game.

We then found the winner after a direct ball was latched onto and finished well. The boys showed great maturity in the final few minutes, protecting our goal well, defending as a team and making sure we saw the game out to secure a big win.

A massive moment for the boys. To come from 3–1 down against a very good DUSC side and show the character, belief and resilience to turn the game around is something they should be extremely proud of.

Hopefully, this gives the group a real boost of confidence and belief as we move forward into the 2026/27 season. There is plenty to build on, but today showed what this group is capable of when they believe in themselves and keep fighting until the final whistle.
