Saltire Tides We are three ordinary women from Scotland taking on an extraordinary adventure!

With the clocks going back and the winter officially upon us, heres a throwback from the longest day of summer.

Just the 3 of us out on the water, enjoying the sunset, noah kahan playing in the back ground, hoping for an orca to jump out the water.

Jumping forward to now, we are just 48 days away from setting off across the Atlantic.

Hi, we’re Saltire Tides and in December this year we will be rowing across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the .toughest.row . We are taking on this incredible charity to fundraise for . One of the biggest challenges in our training has been figuring out how best to fuel our bodies for life at sea.

In collaboration with Make It Scotch Education , we recently spoke to The National about the vital role nutrition plays in extreme endurance challenges.

When rowing across the Atlantic, we’ll need to consume up to 5,000 calories a day. Getting the right nutrients is essential to maintaining our energy, supporting recovery and keeping our bodies performing at their best.

Iron is particularly important, as low levels can lead to fatigue, dizziness, headaches and reduced exercise performance, all symptoms we want to avoid out on the Atlantic.

That’s why including quality, iron-rich foods, is an important part of our fuelling strategy as we prepare for the challenge ahead.

A huge thank you to Make It Scotch for helping us highlight the importance of nutrition on our journey to the start line. Check out our article in The National linked in our bio

The boat is officially ready to go!

Last week we drove from Edinburgh to Essex to drop off our ocean rowing boat. She is now being shipped down to the Canary islands, where we will meet her in December.

We have spent the last few weeks squeezing as much as we can into the cabins and storage spaces, so once we are all reunited she’s has everything on board for our crossing.

We are incredibly proud to be rowing the Atlantic for The Archie Foundation

As a team of healthcare professionals, choosing a charity that has impact within our comunitity only felt right. We hope the money we raise will help the foundation continue their vital work, and help more families get the support they need.

Packing up our boat to ship off to the start line, Ellen has been tasked with clearing out our cabins of any unnecessary items.

What do you think... should our Statue of Liberty ducky come with us across the Atlantic?

We are two months away from taking on the Atlantic!!! We’ve done our big food shop, the boat is all packed up and on its way to the start line, there’s no more on the water training… it’s all getting very real!

We just wanted to take this moment to thank every single person that has got us to this point. What started off as a crazy idea has become our entire lives and we are so grateful to every person that has supported us.

We can’t wait to make you all proud!

Our final food shop before we set off!

This may seem a little early as the row doesn’t start for another 64 days. However, because our boat ships next week we have to load as much as we can into her to save having to fly it ourselves. This has meant being super organised and getting our food shop done nice and early.

We then spent the next few days meticulously working our way through a check list to make sure she was all packed and ready to go! Thankfully for the budget this shop came in far cheaper than expected, does that mean we can take more snacks…?

Sustainability is at the forefront of every decision we make for this row. We have chosen to partner with , not only because they’re tasty and nutritious, but for their compostable packaging.

Whilst out on the Atlantic we need to be constantly fueling our bodies. So along side our freeze dried meals we need to factor in as many snack breaks as possible.

Having an easy to grab bar means are bodies can recover quickly and we can get back on those ores and across the Atlantic.

Our favourite dolphin paid us a visit! We’d like to introduce you to Derek, the friendly dolphin in all Scottish waters.

We are sure we’ll experience some pretty incredible wildlife on the Atlantic, but this dolphin will always hold a special place in our hearts
