Athletico 3-1 Rothes AFC

A delightful scoreline in miserable conditions on Sunday as we get our second win on the board for the season!

A quick start for us as we move the ball quickly and create a couple chances, however it was Sean Johnstone smashing one from 40 yards, catching the goalie out despite getting a hand to it, wasn’t enough as it finds the back of the net as we lead 1-0.

We continued with some good build up play throughout the half and we scored two quick fire goals later in the half. Stew sets up both, the first of which a nice outside of the boot pass over the top for Sean to slot home for his and our second of the game!

Stews second assist slips Ricky through who takes it well and leaves us 3-0 up at half time!

We did create some chances in the second half with two close range one on one’s skied towards the leisure centre which would have killed the game off but wasn’t to be.

Rothes pushed on halfway through the second half and as we got deeper into the game we begin to become more open. 3 forced changes up the spine of the team left us at risk of conceding as subs had to get up to speed with the frantic pace of the game and Rothes capitalise by slotting one home inside the last ten mins.

The lads rallied and saw off the game and the all 3 points!

Refs MOTM - Christy Campbell. Another solid defensive performance and did not look troubled at the back dealing with everything in the air and showing composure and quality on the ball.

Coaches MOTM - Lewis Wilkie. The goalie making some superb saves under tough conditions and kept us in the lead on several occasions.

Tough day today and a very frustrating game, a solid first half performance but we dropped off a little bit in the second and our opponents upped their game.

Plenty didn’t go our way and we come away with an unfortunate 4-3 loss.

But the lads battled hard and worked hard throughout. Back to training this week and onto the next one
