Explaining to the person who suffers from constant back pain "flare up's"

what should be happening,

what's currently happening,

how it relates to their past history

And a plan going forward is massive for the person's peace of mind.

If we don't assess, we guess

"Should I continue if it's sore"

Ideally the answer would be NO

We've all done it and thought to ourselves "ah it's fine, it'll go away!

If you're 2, 3, 4 months in saying" ah, it's fine... "
It probably ain't going away.

Pain is our protective strategy used by your brain to prevent any further damage from happening. It's essentially a signal to your body saying that it's not happy with what you are doing and something is probably getting over worked because something else isn't doing it's job.

So if your body is telling you to slow down or stop by putting pain in the way, maybe we need to listen.

Stripped back and it's us that looks like the alien!!

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM IS KING

Although no system in our body works alone.

Pain is multifactorial - beliefs, emotions, thoughts, our movements - too much or too little, our sleep - too much or too little, Hydration, nutrition etc etc..

Everything matters

The answer could be in your story if you're suffering from chronic pain

The nervous system never forgets

To say you have a bad back may not be the case, it's probably doing a GREAT job for you and just needs a little help. ⠀

Approximately 85% of such back pain is classified as non-specific, which means that no structural change, no inflammation and no specific disease can be found as its cause (O'Sullivan, 2005). ⠀

Unspeficic low back pain is possibly because your back is doing a lot of the work through everyday life and its not getting any or little help from the upper limbs, lower limbs or core (Abs, Obliques, diaphragm, TVA)⠀

Through sport and everyday life we need EVERYTHING to do its job so other areas don't have to pick up the slack and get over worked and/or overloaded. It's in those instances when pain, discomfort or stiffness may occur. ⠀

Things can change and the pain can dissipate ⠀

1st time this year. Setting something to beat ⌚🏃‍♂️

Photos 21/10/2021

A lot slower than normal due to a very very slight ankle sprain 10 days ago

My brain is still aware of it

It's telling me something ain't right

Running with a little apprehension = not good

I'm not saying stop with every little ni**le we feel, quite the opposite, we need to MOVE.

However, respect an injury, get it treated so you get back to running or whatever it is you want to get back to without any THOUGHT/AWARENESS of the injury or pain, and you can focus on getting FITTER, FASTER, STRONGER
