A Winning Night At The Sustainable Ireland Awards 2018

There was double cause for celebration in November 2018 at the Sustainable Ireland Awards, as both Granville Energy Supply Ltd and Ian Harvey, one of B9 Energy Group’s founding members, were recognised with awards!

Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in South Belfast and compered by television and radio sports presenter Adrian Logan, the ceremony was attended by hundreds of guests and leading figures from the waste management, energy and environmental sectors.

Granville Energy Supply took home the prestigious ‘Energy & Environment Innovation’ award, sponsored by Calor, in recognition of its energy and environmental initiatives. GES is currently the market leader on the island of Ireland in the production and selling of Biomethane and was the first company in Ireland to produce and transport the fuel.

Created by removing impurities and CO2 from the excess Biogas created by our AD plant, the renewable Biomethane is used to power various Combined Heat and Power units. Many of GES’s customers receiving Biomethane to power and heat their plant are also sending their food waste or waste by-products to the AD process, making a clean loop of recovery and regeneration.

In addition, GES’s customers also include regenerated Landfill sites where Biomethane is taken to top up the engines that now have depleted natural gas to power them, representing further innovation by re-employing this existing infrastructure.

Ian Harvey was presented with a ‘Special Achievement’ award, sponsored by RecycleNI, which recognises those who have made a special contribution within the energy, environment, or waste industries across the island of Ireland. As Managing Director of several B9 Energy companies, Ian has managed to raise over £150 million pounds for wind, biomass, landfill gas and AD projects throughout the island of Ireland in recent years.
