Lead Ammunition Restriction – CPSA Transition Timeline

*CLARIFICATION - Following the 2026 introduction of legislation restricting lead ammunition, it will be illegal to SELL or USE lead ammunition from 1 April 2029. The possession of lead cartridges will remain lawful.

We know many members have questions about the move to non-lead ammunition, which is why we're taking a proactive approach to education, testing and engagement across the sport.

Through our Steel Shot Have-a-Go initiative, industry consultation and ongoing collaboration with cartridge manufacturers and grounds, we're working to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible for shooters.

The legislation is coming, but there is time to prepare. We encourage all members to take advantage of the opportunities available, ask questions and start familiarising themselves with non-lead alternatives well before they become mandatory.
