⚽️ PLAYER PROFILE ⚽️

Next up in the series of teenagers who have broken into our 1st team this season is dynamic midfielder Tom McIlwaine-Daly.

Tom had shown great promise early in his teenage years, winning a football scholarship with Irish League winners Larne. When he turned 18 Larne had to offer him a pro contract - or let him go.

The great news for St Luke’s was signing Tom in the midst of a lot of competition. Tom had offers from other clubs but chose us, believing he could make our 1st team.

That was this time last year, Tom was 18, skipped our U21 team and started off the season in the 2nds under JP Callaghan & Eamon McCaughley. During the course of last season as our 1sts were struggling and being drawn into a relegation battle, Tom was called up to add a bit of steel to the midfield. He quickly established himself and played his part in keeping us up, thereby maintaining our Intermediate status.

And so to this season, we’re now eight games in and Tom has started every game. His personal development is obvious as he grows in confidence and self belief. It’s safe to say that Tom is now embedded in our 1st team set-up.

What often hinders kids’ chances at this level of football is NOT that they’re not good enough. It’s that sometimes they’re not big enough or strong enough.
Not so with our big Tom. He’s 6’1”, 14 stone, great pace and can cover a lot of ground box to box. A bit like Roy Keane, only better 😂😂.

Tom McIlwaine-Daly is 19!!!

Junior Cup – St Luke's Reserves 0-3 Crewe U23s

St Luke's Reserves welcomed Crewe U23s to the Brook Activity Centre on Saturday afternoon for this Junior Cup tie, with a 1:30pm kick-off.

The home side started brightly and controlled large periods of the opening exchanges, moving the ball well and looking comfortable in possession. Crewe gradually worked their way into the game and enjoyed a spell of pressure midway through the first half, creating a few chances of their own. However, St Luke's responded well and finished the half the stronger of the two sides, leaving everything to play for at the break.

The game turned shortly after the restart. Crewe emerged for the second half looking a different side, while St Luke's struggled to find the same rhythm they had shown in the opening 45 minutes. The defining moment came when Jack Gallagher made a brave last-ditch challenge to prevent a clear goalscoring opportunity. Unfortunate not to win the ball, Gallagher was shown a red card as the last man, leaving St Luke's with a mountain to climb.

Crewe took full advantage of the resulting free kick, curling an unstoppable effort into the top corner to break the deadlock with a superb strike.

With a man advantage and their tails up, Crewe began to control proceedings. St Luke's battled hard but found it difficult to get back into the contest, and as the game wore on Crewe added two further goals to seal a 3-0 victory and their place in the next round.

The scoreline was perhaps harsh on a St Luke's side that had competed well for long periods, but the red card and stunning opening goal proved decisive.

Everyone at St Luke's Reserves would like to wish Crewe U23s the very best of luck in the next round of the Junior Cup.

💛💙 FROM THE BRINK OF DOWNSIZING… TO FOUR SENIOR TEAMS! 💙💛

Only 4 years ago, things looked bleak for St Luke’s FC.

We were genuinely having conversations about whether we could even continue with our Senior & Reserve setup — with the possibility of having to fold the Reserves and run with just ONE senior team.

Fast forward to today…
For the first time EVER, a club from the Colin area has FOUR senior football teams! 🔥⚽️

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It is testament to the incredible work that has gone into developing our U17s, U18s & U21s, creating a genuine pathway from junior football into the senior game and, most importantly, giving players of ALL abilities the opportunity to play senior football.

A pathway where a young lad can start his journey in junior football, develop, progress and ultimately have the honour of pulling on the St Luke’s jersey and representing his local area. 💛💙

And that jersey means something.

It has been worn with pride by brothers, uncles, fathers and grandfathers before them — whether that was through Brookville, Almond Star or St Luke’s.

Now a new generation is carrying that tradition forward.

From talking about whether we could survive with one senior team…
➡️ To FOUR senior teams representing the Colin area.

That is progress.
That is development.
That is community.
And most importantly…
That is St Luke’s. 💛💙
We are proud of who we are, what we represent and where we come from.
The future is bright. 🟡🔵⚽️
