On a Tuesday evening 20 young ladies from the Dunnington Brownies visited Dunnington Bowls Club to get a taste of the game of Lawn Bowls.
After some introductions, the brownies were split into small groups and given some basic instructions on how to stand, how to hold the bowls and how to deliver them. Itโs fair to say the variability of success in getting close to the targets was quite wide but their enthusiasm never waned.
Having had some practice, the brownies settled down and started to find the lines required with several managing to get their bowls over the target mats, loud cheers and high fives followed.
The evening was bright & sunny but very chilly and the brownies kept themselves warm by enthusiastically chasing after their bowls.
One of the groups managed to keep the Dunnington Bowlers entertained by repeated choruses of Frere Jacques.
Over the last year Dunnington Bowls Club have now hosted groups from Cubs, Brownies, Scouts and the Womenโs Institute to see what the game of Bowls is about, we hope to see return visits from them before long.
