What is this life of ours?
We stand on the doors for hours.
We stand in the sun, wind and snow,
Watching the revellers come and go.
We give up our nights and weekends,
With colleagues and friends.
We stand side by side and shoulder to shoulder,
Not growing weary but every day older.
We deal with the drunks and with the fights,
On warm summer afternoons and cold winter nights.
We are keepers of the peace and guardians of the door.
But there will come a time when we can do this no more.
But until that final day arrives,
We will protect each other and some will sadly lay down their lives.
For the brothers lost and gone, in their memory the rest will carry on.
