A message from Lisa Brinklow:
Tribute to Peter J Brinklow
However you knew my dad, Peter or PJ this is what I believe he would have liked to be shared.
Losing Dad after his operation was a devastating shock for all of us, and it still feels incredibly unfair. But being able to create a permanent reminder here at Dunstable Downs Golf Club, at the place that truly was his second home, helps us focus on the immense joy he brought to life—and the life he gave to golf.
To say golf was Dad’s life is an understatement. His journey on the greens started when he was just a young lad, cleaning the pro’s shoes and caddying for pocket money. From those very humble beginnings, he fell in love with the game, learned to play, and never looked back.
He poured his heart into this sport and this community for a breathtaking 77 years of his life. In fact, he was right out playing golf the week before he went into hospital. That was Dad: full of life, dedicated to the game, and always happiest on the course with his friends.
That is why this spot on the 14th tee is so perfect. I believe he even had a hole in one there!
We wanted to create a beautiful, lasting tribute to him. This bell and plaque are a symbol of his presence here. My hope is that Dunstable Downs will be proud to display it, and that this bell will be 'rung’ for many, many years to come.
Whenever you tee off from the 14th, please ring this bell. Let it be a reminder to share a memory of Dad, Peter, or PJ. Whether it’s a funny story, a reminder of his competitive spirit, or just a genuine, happy memory of a man who loved this game and this club with all his heart.
Thank you Brian, Danny and Dunstable Downs Golf Club, all helping to bring this together.
To Dad—to PJ to Peter. May your memory ring out across these downs forever.
