The club was founded in the early 1900's under the name A.F.C. Dunster, though an actual date is yet unknown. The club was re-established in 1983 under the name Dunster AFC. After competing in the Taunton Sunday Football League between 1983 and 2009, the club failed to comply with league regulations due to a lack of playing staff and withdrew from competition. In June 2011 work began to re-instate AFC Dunster back into the league. The 2012-2013 season saw Dunster compete in the Keyline Taunton Sunday League Third Division in which they won promotion after a fourth place finish. The club played in the League's Second Division. Where they reached the Mike Whitehead Cup Final two seasons running. The 2014/15 season saw the club gain promotion to the League's First Division for the first time. However midway through the the 2016/17 campaign the club again withdrew from competitive football due to a lack of players. The club returned to action again for the start of 2020/2021 season, entering the Keyline Somerset Sunday League.
