Thinking about getting back into hockey or giving it a go for the very first time? 🏑
Durham City Hockey Club are launching a brand new adult “Back to Hockey” programme at Barnard Castle School Astro starting Wednesday 13th May 🙌
These sessions are designed for absolutely everyone aged 18–80, whether you’ve not picked up a stick in years, want to improve your confidence, or are completely brand new to the sport. Beginners are more than welcome and there’ll be equipment available to borrow too!
The sessions will be run by Charlotte Galvin with support from Alan Fisher and will take place from 6:15pm–7:15pm on the following dates:
13th May
20th May
3rd June
10th June
17th June
24th June
Best part? They’re completely FREE 👏
Hockey can seem intimidating if you’ve never tried it before, but honestly it’s one of the friendliest and most social sports out there. Such a great opportunity to get active, meet new people and try something different in a really welcoming environment 🤍

Subject: Spring Training Update & Season Extension
Hi everyone,
As we approach the end of March, the Junior Committee wanted to provide an update on our training schedule and membership for the remainder of the season.
We know it’s been a frustrating winter with several sessions lost to frozen pitches and coaching availability. To make up for those five missed sessions since September, we’ve decided to adjust our schedule to ensure all our players get the "hockey hours" they signed up for.
Here is the plan moving forward:
Membership Subs: *For those who signed up before Christmas*, your final monthly membership payment for this season will be taken in March
"Free" Hockey: To compensate for missed sessions, training will continue through April and up until the May half-term with no further subs required.
Sunday Sessions: These will continue to run as normal through the end of May.
Barney Festival: We are currently looking into a Sunday festival at Barnard Castle toward the end of the term, stay tuned for more details!
We are also currently reviewing our coaching plans and summer league options to keep the momentum going into the warmer months.
Thank you for your continued support and for being such a vital part of the club. We’ll see you on the pitch!
Best regards,
The Junior Hockey Committee

What a weekend for our Development Team 💛🖤💛
A huge 7–0 win and another brilliant performance from a group that just keeps getting better every week.
Our Development Team are honestly amazing. They’re exactly what grassroots hockey should look like. Full of energy, encouragement and people giving it a proper go, whether they’re brand new to the sport, returning after a break or coming through as juniors. Our development games are such a positive, supportive environment and a massive part of that is down to how welcoming and encouraging our senior players are, always helping, guiding and cheering on those coming into the sport.
If you’re a junior, a beginner, or someone who’s always fancied giving hockey a try but didn’t know where to start, this is your sign. We’re always looking for more players to join the development ranks and we’d absolutely love to get you involved.
The Development Team are back in action again this Sunday against Hartlepool and we already know it’s going to be another brilliant game 🏑🔥
If you’re interested in joining, drop us a message. No pressure, no expectations, just great hockey and a fantastic team to be part of 💫

Our juniors are back on the pitch this weekend after a lovely Christmas break, followed by a run of frozen pitches ❄️🙌
We’re so excited to see the kids back out there, sticks in hand and smiles on faces. Sunday sessions at Maiden Castle are good to go and we’re hoping for a fun, busy and positive return to hockey 🏑💛
As always, please keep an eye on Pitchero and WhatsApp for any last-minute updates, but fingers crossed we’re back into the swing of it. See you on the pitch!

We’re excited to be back after the Christmas holidays and get all our junior sessions up and running again.

• Sunday sessions start this Sunday 11th
• Thursday night training will resume after half term, when the nights are lighter and (hopefully!) a bit warmer
📍 Barnard Castle

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to our club Christmas party last night. We only managed to grab a photo once half of you had already slipped away, but we still had more than 60 of you packed into the rowing club and the place was buzzing. Such a good way to round off the year together.
A few teams still have one or two games to get through before the Christmas break, but for everyone else, enjoy the time off… and try not to eat too much food over the next few weeks 🎄
Big shoutout to Rich and the social team for sorting the night and keeping everything running smoothly. You smashed it.
Roll on the next one 💛🖤💛
