🤗 Yoga in life
Move from the floor to standing:
Here’s the sequence:
➡️ Kneeling
➡️ Low lunge
➡️ Pyramid pose
➡️ Forward fold
➡️ Neutral spine to standing (chair pose)
➡️ Mountain pose
🔥 This month, one client shared the measured improvements she experienced after 4 weeks of yoga practice:
“Measurements demonstrated a 10% improvement in my range of movement (left hip) and a significant reduction in pain and discomfort. This is directly related to the yoga as nothing else has changed.”
Notably - Yoga was the only significant change in her life.
Measurement of hip mobility was taken in a clinical setting by a physiotherapist who had approved of the client taking up yoga as a way to help in the management of her condition (mild to moderate osteoarthritis).
It’s helpful to receive such nuanced and measured feedback regarding the impact of my yoga classes - and very much appreciated 🙏🏼

🧡 How does the concept of ‘less is more’ align with yoga?
➡️ Do you keep adding more and more activity to your life… without pausing to consider how complex your life is becoming?
🙈 That was me… midlife… doing, doing, doing…
At one point I paused long enough to let go of a role… To shift direction…
Though I still kept adding more and more doing…
🪷 In yoga there is a concept called kaivalya, which means to be free.
➡️ When you have more entanglements, you have more suffering.
🪷 It is the basic principle of the dharsanas.
❗️ Sometimes we cling to things - roles and possessions long past the time when they serve us.
🧡 Yoga therefore invites us to seek less complexity… to get comfortable with:
Less entanglement
Less compulsive activity
Less need (possessions)
🧘🏻♀️ The practice
Less is more freedom
✅ As you let go of possessions that you no longer need, release your attachment…
✅ As you transition from one stage of life to the next, release your attachment to that past self, turn your focus to present possibilities (now)
✅ As you choose not to do something, recall how you may be giving yourself the ‘gift of time’
“When the mind is quiet, there is more freedom, less compulsion, less entanglement in experiences we have no control over.” Ganesh Mohan / Svastha Yoga
🪷 In your yoga practice on the mat discover:
➡️ Less tension and stress in the body
➡️ Less effort and less necessary breathing
➡️ Less stimulation and entanglement for the senses
➡️ Less of the constant activity of the mind
Notice how this brings you:
🧡 More freedom
🧡 More rest
🧡 More recovery
🧡 More choice from that freedom
❗️Transitions on the mat…
On this occasion a step and release into low lunge
🤗 Quite honestly, I prefer to step to the front of the mat rather than jump… and never got to that point where I can do a lovely floaty jump…
💪🏼 But I have seen personal improvement in my capacity to step into that space…
🧡 And here’s the thing…
In class… it may be that:
➡️ You tiptoe towards the front
➡️ You take several steps
➡️ You take a step and then edge forward
➡️ You use blocks under your hands to create space to step into
✅ The point is to meet yourself where you are, and work with that edge…
🧡 You may discover small changes in your reach and movement…
or you may even ditch the posture (downward dog) and the transition altogether!
➡️ The bottom line:
You find what works for you
You work at your edge
And if needed…
You let go of what does not serve you

Teach according to the ability of the individual – or find the edge of your practice – means having respect for where you are and how you work in your practice.
Do what works for you now!

The true impact of the practice can only be felt…
It can’t be captured on camera.
I sit in deep appreciation for my clients gentle observation of the impact of their practice today.
There was more… but it can’t even be captured in words.
It is a lived embodied experience, a feeling state, a bhavana.

🤗 Hello and welcome…
If you’ve never tried yoga before, but feel curious to give it a go…
🧡 Did you know that you can book a 1-2-1 class that’s designed to help you learn the basic principles and practices of yoga?
🧡 And that you can even book with a friend (2-1) class, and learn together!

🧡 What I love about my Tuesday classes (11:00 - 12:00) is the age range! There are fit 80 year olds practising alongside fit 20something year olds… and no matter the age, what they all appreciate is the continuity of the practice and deep calming integration of body, breath and mind.
🧡 Meanwhile the Thursday evening group (18:00 - 19:00) is building strength and fluidity with flowing sequences and invites to stillness… and they keep showing up for themselves week after week 💪🏼🙏🏼
➡️ For those seeking to build a practice at home… you might even be interested in a monthly workshop that invites you to enjoy an extended practice where you get to learn a little about the history and philosophy of yoga alongside asana, pranayama and meditation.
➡️ To bring yoga into your life…
All you have to do is book your session…

I was asked - did you greet the sun with Sun Salutations on the Inner Harmony Retreat? And the answer is No!
From the Svastha Yoga perspective…
➡️ we explored domains and skills and this meant adapting and modifying the practices and teaching basic principles of practice that carry across into life!
➡️ we moved the spine in all directions without Sun Salutation - using key accessible standing postures
➡️ we avoided overloading the shoulders with downward dog, plank and chaturanga… keeping the practice more accessible to all
✅ Instead we focused on mastering:
💪🏼The Agile Aging Flow for Healthy Aging
💪🏼A Warrior Flow for Inner Strength
💪🏼A Goddess Flow for Balance and Harmony
Incorporating the key skills and domains
Building intention
Connecting with the breath
☀️ And yes, we greeted the sun - with these flows - appreciating all the positive qualities and bhavanas / feeling states that yoga invites into our lives.
🪷 Yatha Shakti - The view of Krishnamacharya (and Svastha Yoga) is that we teach according to the ability of the individual.

➡️ You do not need to strive to strive for a particular shape in yoga!
Read that again!
➡️ You don’t have to be in a ‘perfect’ ‘idealised’ form.
There is no perfect or final form of an asana / posture…
There is no need to chase a ‘perfect’ shape or asana…
You will do the practice in a way that works for you.
➡️ Yes, the asana / posture serves a function
But you get to practice in the way that serves you…
Practice without striving
Practice with comfort
Practice without pain
Do what works for you now
Yatha Shakti
➡️ Equally, you will not be asked to chase a fixed ratio in breath or length of breath…
You will find your edge.
You will practice without stress or strain.
And you will experience this in every class
Which builds the inner experience and bhavana / feeling state for the practice.
🧘🏻♀️ So if you are new to yoga - reach out
Let me help you find your edge in your practice
Let me help you make your practice functional and relevant to you
Let me help you integrate the key principles of practice so they feel deeply embodied, natural and dare I say - even taken for granted.
When you set your goals in terms of function / skills, your sense of success comes naturally.
❤️ This is Yoga - No Impossible Shapes Required.
🤔And if you’re wondering - all I did in this video was widen my base of support in a genuine moment of awareness during a short practice. Yatha Shakti.
