Currents — Why they’re powerful and how to avoid them.
Cold water shock — Spotting it and staying calm.
Safe entries — Feet‑first, controlled, aware.
Float to live — The essential survival skill.
👶 For Younger Swimmers

This week, our swimmers will dive into action as real‑life water heroes!
Each lesson will celebrate courage, teamwork, and the power of practice... because every kick, stroke, and breath builds super strength.

🌟 JUNE STAR OF THE MONTH 🌟
Shoutout to our newest superstar, Kieran! 💥
He’s only just joined the team at swim@ Durham, but you’d never know it… straight in, high energy, fully on brand, and delivering themed lessons that kids love.
Parents, swimmers, teammates… everyone’s talking about how brilliant his sessions are. And on top of that, he’s gone out of his way to cover lessons and keep everything running smoothly.
We’re seriously impressed, welcome to the team, you’re smashing it already. 💙💦

🌊 Sea Swimming isn’t the same as pool swimming.
🚩 Know Your Flags
⛔️ Red — No swimming/bathing at all
⚠️ Orange windsock — Strong winds
✅️ Red & Yellow — Lifeguarded zone. Swim only between them.
👶 Kids + Water = You Stay Close! Never let children enter the sea alone. Even knee‑deep.
🌊 Sea & River vs Pool
Currents pull you sideways or out.
Tides rise fast.
Cold water shock hits instantly.
Hidden hazards you can’t see.
🚨 If an Emergency Happens:
* Call 999 and ask for Coastguard.
* Raise the alarm — shout for help, alert lifeguards immediately.
* Don’t enter the water!! Most drownings happen when someone tries to rescue another person.
* Use flotation — throw a buoy, board, or anything that floats.
* Tell them to float — encourage the casualty to lie back, spread arms and legs, and keep calm.
* Keep eyes on them — point to their location and guide rescuers in.

Lights… camera… SPLASH! 🎬💦
This week our swimmers are diving straight into the world of TV & movies, from Buzz Lightyear style glides to underwater adventures worthy of a blockbuster.
Expect dramatic entrances, award‑winning kicks, and maybe even a few Oscar‑level performances from our magical Ariels and superb Spidermen.
Imagination is mandatory.
Roll the cameras… it’s showtime in the pool! 🎥🌊

🔢Numbers Week Update:
Suspect - Teacher Joe was last seen splashing excessively, stealing pool noodles and thinking he is very funny with his childish humour.
Height: questionable. 📏
Attitude: elite.
Commitment to swimming: off the charts. 🏊🏻♂️
Please report any further aquatic mischief to the team!

🏴☠️ Batten down the hatches!!
Pirate Week is nearly upon us, and it’s going to be WILD!
They will be using their imaginations to turn the pool into a magical ocean kingdom.
They’ll practise their brave‑as‑a‑barnacle swimming skills, lots of bubble blowing, shout “ARRR!” at absolutely everything, and help the Swim@ Durham crew protect the pool from the legendary Giggle Kraken (very friendly, loves stickers, just like our swimmers!)💜 🏴☠️
