Another home fixture for the Shincliffe boys last Saturday as we faced Washington United Yellows at Wellfield School.
The game started with Shincliffe dominant from the first whistle and registering our first attack with under a minute on the clock. The lads looked up for the game and pinned Washington into their own half with further attempts on goal from Banksy and Billy. With around 10 minutes played Ruben then hit the post and Billy had a shot fly wide of the target. With Washington barely setting foot in our half we continued to create more opportunities with Luca & Lucas both having efforts cleared off the line and the GK saving a well struck volley from point blank range.

Against the run of play Washington took the lead 5 minutes before the break with only their 2nd shot on target in the full half with a ball beating Joseph at his near post ⚽
The half time whistle was blown and we somehow went in a goal down at the break.

The early stages of the second half followed a similar patten with Shincliffe camped out in the Washington half but failing to find the breakthrough.
Things then went from bad to worse when Washington were awarded a penalty and we found ourselves 2 goals down⚽ We tried to commit more players forward but this effected the balance of the team and Washington started to use the ball well and we struggled to create the chances that we had done earlier in the game. With 5 minutes remaining 2 quick fire Washington goals ⚽⚽meant there was no way back into the game for Shincliffe and the game ended in defeat for the boys.

A bad day at the office on Saturday where we didn’t put our chances away in the first half of the game and got punished with some sloppy defending ultimately. We dust ourselves down and go again this weekend.

The Shincliffe boys were finally back in league action yesterday which was only our second game in 8 weeks!!!

A very tough game was in store for the boys as we faced a very good New Durham team. To add to the difficult task ahead the game was played on a very heavy grass pitch which is something the boys have not been used to.

The early stages of the game were pretty evenly matched with both teams finding it difficult to get the ball down and play football on the wet, sticky surface. Midway through the first half Shincliffe took the lead with a great freekick from Billy from just outside the area leaving the New Durham GK no chance ⚽️. The lads continued to compete for the remainder of the half and went in ahead at the break.

In the second half the lads upped the tempo and continued to play some great attacking football in the oppositions half, forcing the ball into wide areas and winning multiple corners. The second goal came 10 minutes into the half when Ruben delivered a corner into a dangers area and Lucas hammered home from close range ⚽️.

Credit to New Durham because they showed great character after going 2 down and started to ask questions of our back line who had been outstanding up until this point. New Durham pulled a goal back with a long range shot that beat Joseph low to his right ⚽️ A few minutes later they were level after a ball into the Shincliffe box was scrambled past Joseph ⚽️

We needed a lift at this point so decided to change things a bit in an attempt to get back on top. We brought Lochlan back on at right back, moved Oliver to left back, Joshua from left back to left wing and decided to play Lucas up front.
Within minutes we were back in front after Sam played a good ball in behind the New Durham back line for Lucas to chase. The GK beat him to the ball but he didn’t give up and got his rewards when the GK kicked the ball off Lucas which ended up going back past the GK and into the net ⚽️. This give us a lift and minutes later we added a fourth. A long throw from Sam bounced in the box and Joshua reacted first poking the ball past the GK ⚽️. Five minutes later we then added a 5th after Lucas and Ruben linked up down the right. Ruben raced away from the oppositions back line before squaring for Lucas to tap home from close range to complete his hatrick ⚽️ The boys were not finished and with a few minutes remaining Lucas was in the thick of it again, dribbling down the left and squaring for Joshua who finished well from 6 yards out ⚽️.

An outstanding performance yesterday where every single one of the lads did exactly what we asked of them before the game. We battled and competed in all areas of the pitch and played some very good football in very difficult conditions. Well done Shincliffe πŸ’™β€οΈ
