The 2026 drought has shown that golf clubs can’t rely on endless water and perfect green fairways all summer.

Firm, healthy playing surfaces are now more important than simply keeping everything green.

The clubs that will succeed in the future are the ones that focus on,

-Smarter water use
-Drought-tolerant turf
-Sustainable course management

Having now completed my PGA Director of Golf qualification, it’s a great feeling to be in the top 2% of PGA Professionals across Europe to hold both PGA Advanced Coach and PGA Director of Golf status.

It’s been an incredible journey requiring a huge amount of hard work, commitment and dedication, so it’s extremely rewarding to reach this point.

I’m now looking forward to combining my experience and qualifications to help golf facilities improve, develop and expand, while creating stronger pathways for golfers and delivering long-term growth. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️

Building a strong culture at your golf club ⛳️

After completing the PGA Director of Golf qualification and having a recent visit back to my former golf club confirmed that successful clubs are built on far more than just golf, and it was great to see the excellent work being done at Oakdale Golf Club 👌

During my time as Head Professional at Oakdale, working closely with General Manager Mike Scahill and collaborating with every department weekly highlighted the importance of brand communication, strategy, and long-term planning.
Now joining the GCMA has reinforced one key lesson, strong clubs are built through teamwork, open communication, and shared goals.

Management, administration, the professional shop, greens, hospitality, and maintenance all play a vital role in creating a positive and sustainable club culture.

My final thought
‘Real progress comes when experience, communication, qualifications, and teamwork move the whole organisation forward together.’

Well done to Mr Young, a great talent, getting back into golf this season 👌❤️ A gross 68 this week, just needed a reset with his swing 💪 ⛳️🏌🏼‍♂️
