This Saturday, DULC will be hosting Olympic Lifter for a Seminar!!
Mercy holds three British records and has been competing since 2014 as one of Britain’s most successful heavyweights (75-87+ cats)- including earning silver and bronze medals at European and World Championships!
DULC try and run at least one seminar for both Weightlifting and Powerlifting each term, with a broad range of athletes from different background. From international athletes to coaches to referees, everyone provides our lifters with different stories and takeaways from each seminar!
If you’re a DULC member and are interested in any upcoming seminars, send us or our Captains a DM!!

This academic year, we’ve been lucky enough to get some IPF & IWF approved competition equipment for our members!
This investment has and will continue to allow our members to train to a competition standard with the equipment they can expect to come across on the platform.
As a club, we’ve developed some house rules when using the competition equipment to make sure it’s kept to a high standard and to ensure that future members of DULC can enjoy the same great benefits from such high quality equipment!
Things like cleaning bars with the chalk brushes rather than the alcohol wipes helps the bars last as long as possible, whilst putting things back correctly ensures that everyone can use the equipment!
If you have any questions about entering competitions, using the equipment or just lifting in general, don’t hesitate to send us a DM!

Do you really enjoy going to the gym?
Have some experience in strength sports? Or have you never touched a barbell before?
Head down to Maiden Castle tomorrow for the Sports Fair between 1pm and 6pm, We'll be there to answer any of your questions and you'll have the opportunity to sign up for our taster sessions throughout Freshers week and the rest of October.
If you have any burning questions that can't wait, we're also taking over the .durham instagram today to shed some light on what it means to be a part of the team!

✨ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT✨
We’re very excited to announce that one of our powerlifters, has been invited to compete at the FISU University World Cup!
Bailey has been lifting with DULC since first year and served as Treasurer in his second, making a huge contribution to the development of the club.
Coming 4th at BUCS this year, Bailey will be competing in Istanbul at the end of October in the u59 class. We’ll all be cheering through our screens and can’t wait to see him representing .durham on the international stage (or in this case, platform!)

INJURY //
Getting injured is never going to be good however there are things you should do to mitigate the impact.
•
Firstly, get professional advice.
I saw the DU physios and they were so helpful! As long as you stick to what you are told to do you will get better.
Personally I found that it was more a mental thing for me - it was MUCH harder to allow myself to recover than it was to actually do the exercises and stretches.
I was physically in pain but I couldn’t stop pushing myself to be a better powerlifter.
•
You have to allow yourself time to recover. And you have to be nice to yourself when you can’t reach the goals you want or do the things you used to be able to do.
Things will improve but also don’t be scared to reach out to the people around you for support. Also finding other things you like doing is really important. If you can’t Powerlifting you may still be able to go on nice long walks or ride your bike or do bicep curls!
Its not over even if you’re injured. But you have to give yourself time to rest or you will only make it worse and be out of the game for longer.
