My neighbour’s full suspension folding Birdy was in for a service this week. This is such a cool little bike! 18” wheels, 6 speeds derailleur with a 3 speed hub gear giving it 18 speeds in total.

Full degrease, new rear tyre, two new tubes, new chain, new cables throughout. Many years of use ahead for this one!

Feather Cycles Workshop regular, Carol, popped in to make her new Liv gravel bike winter ready and although it feels like the summer that keeps on giving, we know the inevitable is only a few rides around the corner.

I fitted a set of the outstanding Portland Design Works Full Metal Fender’s and her pedal of choice, Wahoo Speedplay Zero’s so there will be no corrosion issues over the coming months of rain, cold and salt.

Annual service carried out on this Specialized Ruby with the help of Zachary Hutchinson during his few days here for work experience.

Alongside the service, the owner is ready to take the plunge to clip in pedals, so it also has a fresh set of SPDSL’s for her training in the run up to a triathlon relay later in the summer where she plans to ride the cycling leg of the race.

I’ve had a great few days with Zach also. He has carried out various tasks in the workshop, including helping with tube prep, braze-on finishing, getting all the bikes into showroom condition and has also taken a bunch of photos and video to put a video together at some point for the socials. He also took the photos in this post. I’m looking forward to having him around a day a week over the summer holidays to help keep things tidy around the workshop.

Full initial setup of Mark’s pre-assembled new Canyon gravel bike plus an immediate wheel upgrade using our DAO Carbon UK trade in offer.

The initial set up included checking all torque settings on every bolt, alignment of shifters and handlebars, alignment of brake callipers, greasing thru-axle threads, setting up gears, setting limit screws and tubeless set up of the replacement wheels.

A very interesting wheel build for the son of my workshop neighbour this week. Fin is at York St John’s doing a production design degree and has been working on an amazing e-cargo bike project which these wheels are destined for.

The front hub is particularly interesting as Fin designed it himself and had it machined locally. The printed plastic parts are just a means to build the wheel, however the bike itself will hub steer and has many interesting components which go through a large bearing to achieve this.

I can’t wait to see the complete bike!

Gareth from joined us for the same course as Tom whose bike I posted this morning. Gareth chose to build himself a 29er hardtail frame which just came back from the powder coaters in this nice dark teal, very reminiscent of many of the BMX bikes both myself and Gareth grew up riding.

Keep an eye out for this one on the paths and tracks around Oxfordshire!

did a frame building course here at Feather Cycles earlier in the year. He just collected the finished machine which has turned out fantastic.

The paint scheme is based on our local Reliance Motor Services buses, a family run business for 94 years until it was sold in January 2025. A cool little nod to historic local transport, recognisable to anyone who has spent any significant time here in York or North Yorkshire.
