I love these early morning 'Rise and Shine' yoga classes ... so let's have another one!

Join me online, Saturday October 10th, 7 - 8am, put it in your diary ๐Ÿ™‚ for an hour of autumn yoga to ease you into the day, with pranayama and relaxation. It's a relaxed and chilled session, with a bit less chatting so that you can wake up gently.

As always in my specials and workshops, there'll be yoga in the plan that I don't share so much.

The class is usual class price ยฃ5.50, and I'll put the Zoom link in our Facebook VIP group, or you can message me for the link if you're not in the group.

I can promise you that it will be a beautiful, calm way to start your day.

Lovely to be back at classes this week, thank you to everyone who joined me :) I very much appreciated seeing all your smiling faces to ease me back into work. The struggle of transitioning from photo 1 to photo 2 is very real ;) ha ha.

Hope you've enjoyed the autumn focused yoga. Here's what we got up to:

* We released stiffness and clickiness from our joints, and eased into the back - some of you had a variation of cat which I hope you liked, it's become a real favourite of mine.
* We practised yoga to keep us grounded, which I hope you found settling and soothing.
* We had yoga to help the digestion system, which enjoys a bit more support at this time of year.
* We really focused on abdominal breathing, there are few things better for settling autumn upsets.
* We enjoyed some classic Dru Yoga, some traditional asana and of course lovely relaxations.

Ooh just writing this makes me want to do the classes all over again ha ha.

Hope to see you all next week, online, Tuesdays 6.15 - 7.15pm, Thursday 2 - 3pm or 6.45 - 7.45pm or Friday 9.30 - 10.30am.

FABULOUS FRIDAY'S TIP OF THE DAY: How to get the most from your asana practice. Pigeon pose

This week let's move up the spine and focus on the chest and shoulders in Pigeon pose.

* Broaden the collarbones, to keep your chest open and wide, stopping the shoulders from caving inwards.
* Roll your shoulders back and down, away from your ears.
* If you can't comfortably reach the floor with your hands and stay tall at the same time, rest on your finger tips or rest each hand on a yoga block.

I have a question, specifically to my on-demand studio participants, but if enough are interested you never know...

Would you be interested in my posting some videos at the start of each of month with some yoga wisdom for the weeks ahead? I'm thinking some Ayurvedic lifestyle ideas, what and why I'm choosing the yoga to share and possibly some Vedic astrology when appropriate.

Let me know what you think.

TUESDAY TRIVIA
Let's move to the Pigeon pose, also known as Mast, Parrot or King Pigeon. It's "official" Sanskrit name is Eka pada raja kapotasana, here it is broken down:

Eka means one, pada means foot, raja means king, kapota means pigeon, and asana means seat or posture.

The one foot refers to the back leg, which in the most extreme version of the posture is bent upwards and the practitioner catches hold of the foot with both hands, from an up and overhead position!

The open chest always puts me in mind of the puffed out pigeon breast, and there does feel to be something regal about this posture :)

Any thoughts on Pigeon pose's name?

This morning I shared on my on-demand studio a beautiful (even if I do say so myself!) flow of my own design to help us connect with the earth, and to also connect out into the world, out into the ether. You'll find the link to the sequence in comments :)

Full disclosure, this sequence was designed at the request of a student, for a very specific reason, and we practised in class as part of the request. I got so many messages about it that I recorded a version to share.

My heart tells me that this was so popular because it tapped into a need that many of us are feeling at the moment - a need to feel grounded and settled, to feel strong so that we can cope with what is going on. I played with warrior poses to get the strength and confidence, but I felt it was too much so I softened it with heart focused mudra and asana because I think we also have a need to connect with humanity.

Does this resonate / make sense?

My personal yoga practice is definitely reflecting this with some unexpected twists on classic autumn yoga.

What is helping you feel settled?

PS. The photo is from my walk yesterday in Wharfedale, somewhere between Cray and Hubberholme - it very much sums up the feeling of grounded expansion that I'm currently aiming for!

ALL CLASSES BACK FROM TODAY - WHOO HOO!!

I'm back from my holidays, feeling rejuvenated, inspired and ready to go ๐Ÿ™‚ and of course I'm excited for the autumn "...Ber" months of yoga.

What can you expect from classes this term then?

Well, we will of course be balancing this autumn energy, so there will be yoga to...

* Soothe jangled nerves.
* Help us to sleep well - insomnia can be a real problem in autumn.
* Ease creaking and cracking back and joints so that we can move comfortably.
* Support our digestive and immune systems.

I always find myself inspired when I take a proper break, so I have returned full of ideas for autumn classes and of course the on-demand studio.

Why not join us? Beginners very welcome at my fun and friendly online classes (it's nothing like being on a Zoom meeting for work I promise!). I guide you through all the yoga practices, keeping my eye on you and making sure that you are getting the most benefit!

Tuesdays 6.15 - 7.15pm
Thursdays 2 - 3pm
Thursdays 6.45 - 7.45pm
Fridays 9.30 - 10.30am.

Please do get in touch if you'd like to give it a go.

Or why not give my "on-demand" yoga studio a go? Loads of sessions for just ยฃ9.99 a month :)

PS. I've shared a rare photo of me not in yoga clothes!
