🥗 FOOD. FUEL. PERFORMANCE.

Our Vocational Pathway – Hands-On Learning Options of Cookery and Life Skills can also connect directly with our Recreational Sports provision, helping young people understand an important question:

What does my body actually need — and why?

We want learners to understand food not simply as something we cook and eat, but as the fuel our bodies need to learn, grow, exercise and recover.

Through practical, hands-on activities, young people can explore:

🍌 The role of carbohydrates in providing energy
🥚 Why protein is important for growth and muscle repair
🥦 The importance of vitamins, minerals and a varied diet
💧 Hydration and why our bodies need more fluid when we’re active
🏃 How food choices can support recreational sports, physical activity and recovery
🏷️ Understanding nutritional information and food labels
🥗 Planning balanced meals and snacks
💷 Making nutritious choices while working within a realistic budget

And then we make that learning real.

🥤 MAKE YOUR OWN SMOOTHIE CHALLENGE

Rather than simply telling learners about nutrition, we can give them the ingredients and a purpose.

“You’re taking part in recreational sports today. Design a smoothie or nutritious snack and explain the choices you’ve made.”

Learners can research ingredients, compare nutritional information, calculate quantities and costs, prepare their food safely and begin to understand how different foods contribute to a balanced diet.

They could compare different smoothie recipes, investigate the sugar content of drinks, look at portion sizes or explore what might make an appropriate breakfast, lunch or snack on an active day.

The aim isn’t to tell young people that foods are simply “good” or “bad.”

It’s to give them the knowledge and confidence to understand balance, variety, hydration and informed choices.

Because this is where learning becomes purposeful.

🍳 Cookery becomes nutrition.
🏃 Nutrition connects with Recreational Sports.
💷 Maths becomes budgeting and measuring.
🔬 Science helps us understand the body.
🏷️ Reading becomes understanding a food label.
🌱 Life Skills become greater independence.

And suddenly, subjects that can sometimes feel disconnected in a classroom begin to make sense in the real world.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, that’s exactly what we want learning to do.

🛠️ REAL SKILLS. REAL TOOLS. REAL EXPERIENCE.

For some young people, the best classroom doesn’t have four walls.

It might look like a fully equipped workshop, a construction project, a piece of land that needs maintaining, or a real task that needs solving.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, our Multi Skills vocational pathway is about DOING.

🔨 Construction & joinery
🪚 Measuring, cutting, building & creating
⚠️ Construction Health & Safety
🛠️ Tools, materials & practical problem-solving
🚜 Real working environments and machinery
🌿 25 acres where learning can move outdoors

Our learners aren’t just hearing about practical skills — they’re experiencing why those skills matter and beginning to understand where they could take them.

And already, those conversations are happening.

“Offshore welder.”
“Bricklayer.”
“Train driver.”

Those aspirations matter.

Because for the young person who struggles to see where they fit in a traditional classroom, putting a tool in their hand, giving them responsibility and allowing them to achieve something tangible can change the conversation about education.

Alongside practical skills, they’re learning to communicate, work as a team, solve problems, follow instructions, manage risk and take pride in doing a job properly.

And there’s something incredibly powerful about standing back at the end and being able to say:

✨ “I did that.” ✨

Our workshops, working farm, machinery and 25-acre site give our learners something that can’t always be recreated in a classroom:

Space to do. Space to discover. Space to start thinking about a future.

💚 If you’re a parent wondering whether your child could thrive with a more practical, hands-on approach to learning, we’re always happy to have a conversation.

📧 [email protected]

No pressure. Just an opportunity to explore what might help your young person find their strengths — and start seeing where those strengths could take them.

Real environments. Real responsibilities. Real skills for the future. 🛠️🌿

🚀 PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE FOR LIFE BEYOND EBAP 🚀

Education should open doors.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, our job isn't simply to help a young person succeed while they are with us.
It's to prepare them to succeed when they leave us.

Because eventually, the classroom changes.
It becomes a workplace.
An apprenticeship.
Further education.
A journey made independently.
Managing money.
Meeting new people.
Solving a problem without someone giving you the answer.
It becomes life.
And we want our young people to be ready for it.

💚 SUCCESS LOOKS DIFFERENT FOR EVERY YOUNG PERSON
For one learner, success might be gaining a qualification or progressing into an apprenticeship.
For another, it might be attending consistently.
Travelling independently.
Having the confidence to ask for help.
Preparing their own meal.
Communicating with somebody new.
Taking responsibility.
Getting their first job.
Or simply beginning to believe:
“There is something out there for me.”

That's why we believe in
EDUCATION WITH PURPOSE.
Whether a learner is building a fence, cooking a meal, caring for animals, working on our land, taking part in sport or developing digital skills through Esports, we look beyond the activity itself.
Because there's always more learning happening underneath.
🔨 They built a fence...
but they also planned, measured, communicated, worked safely, solved problems and persevered.
🍳 They cooked a meal...
but they also budgeted, organised themselves, followed instructions, managed their time and developed independence.
🐴 They cared for an animal...
but they also developed empathy, patience, responsibility and reliability.
🌱 They worked on the land...
but they also experienced teamwork, leadership, resilience and the pride of completing a real task.
🎮 They took part in Esports...
but they also communicated, collaborated, made decisions, thought strategically and developed digital confidence.
🏃 They participated in sport...
but they also learned discipline, teamwork, perseverance and how to respond when things don't go their way.

These are transferable skills.
And they matter long after a lesson has finished.
⭐ Punctuality
⭐ Communication
⭐ Teamwork
⭐ Reliability
⭐ Initiative
⭐ Problem-solving
⭐ Professionalism
⭐ Resilience
⭐ Responsibility
⭐ Independence

These are skills for employment, relationships, communities and adult life.

At Team EBAP, our aim is to ensure that every young person leaves us with more than memories of the lessons they completed. We want them to leave with skills, experiences, confidence and a stronger sense of what they are capable of — ready to take their next step, whatever that may look like.

We’re proud of the provision we’re continuing to develop across our 25-acre East Boldon site, and we’re always happy to share what that looks like in practice. If you’re a school leader, SENDCo, Inclusion or Pastoral Lead, caseworker or professional exploring Alternative Provision for a young person, we warmly welcome you to come and visit, meet our team and see the opportunities available first-hand.

🎮 MORE THAN GAMING. SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE. 🚀

What if something your young person already loves could become the thing that inspires them to learn?

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, we believe in INSPIRE BEFORE EDUCATE.
For some young people, finding that spark- something that excites them, gives them confidence and makes them want to engage can be the beginning of something much bigger.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce our NEW ESPORTS PROVISION. 🎮

In an ever-changing, technology-driven world, young people need more than traditional academic skills. They need the confidence to communicate, collaborate, solve problems, think strategically and understand the digital world around them.

Esports is so much more than playing games.
Through structured, team-based activities, Esports can help young people develop:

🎯 Problem-solving & strategic thinking
🤝 Teamwork & communication
💻 Digital confidence & technology skills
🧠 Decision-making & concentration
💪 Resilience & perseverance
⭐ Leadership & confidence

Most importantly, it gives us another opportunity to meet young people where their interests are and use that passion as a starting point for learning, development and future aspirations.

If you are a school, SENDCo, Inclusion or Pastoral Lead, caseworker, parent or professional and would like to find out more about our Esports provision or the wider opportunities available at Team EBAP, we'd love to hear from you.

We also warmly welcome site visits and show-arounds. Come and meet our team, explore our unique 25-acre provision and see first-hand what we can offer young people.

🐾 MEET DAVE… OUR LITTLE CHIEF OF MISCHIEF! 😂💚

He may be small, but Dave has already made a very big impression at East Boldon Alternative Provision.

He’s always up to something, usually somewhere he probably shouldn’t be, and apparently believes that anything left on a desk is his business. 😂🐶

But underneath all that puppy mischief is something pretty special.

💚 Dave has completely won our hearts.

Animal-assisted support can be such a powerful way of creating moments of calm, connection and happiness for young people. Sometimes a wagging tail, a bit of puppy nonsense or simply having an animal nearby can brighten a difficult day.

Dave certainly brightens up our office — and he definitely keeps our young people on their toes! 😂

He’s still learning.
We’re still training him.
And we’re fairly certain he thinks he’s in charge.

🐶 Dave the Puppy.
Official role: Morale Booster & Head of Mischief.

🐾 Apparently now with more paws. 😂

At East Boldon Alternative Provision (Team EBAP), we believe high-quality Alternative Provision should provide much more than a placement.

It should provide schools, local authorities and professionals with a clear, evidence-based picture of the whole young person - academically, emotionally and socially while ensuring everyone involved continues to work together towards the best possible outcome.

Based across a unique 25-acre site in East Boldon, we support young people from South Tyneside, Sunderland and Gateshead, combining core academic learning with practical and vocational opportunities in an environment designed to encourage engagement, confidence and progress.
Central to our approach is our newly integrated reporting system which brings together qualitative and quantitative reporting to help schools, caseworkers and other professionals see the bigger picture.

From daily attendance notifications and lesson information to target ratings, half-termly progress reports, EHCP outcome monitoring and welfare evidence, our system helps us build a detailed picture of each young person's academic, emotional and personal development.

Because a successful AP placement shouldn't simply answer:
“Did they attend?”

It should help us understand:
🟢Are they engaging?
🟢Are they progressing?
🟢What is working?
🟢What support do they still need?
And what could their next step be?

Alongside the reporting system our 25-acre site enables us to offer a broad educational experience combining Maths, English, Science and PSHE with vocational pathways and practical opportunities including construction, multi-skills, joinery and land management.
Most importantly, we work with referring schools and professionals.

We believe the strongest outcomes happen when everyone remains part of the team around the young person, sharing information, recognising progress and planning the next steps together.

⭐️ WE’RE RECRUITING — EBAP OUTREACH WORKERS ⭐️

We’re excited to introduce the EBAP Outreach Team, a rapidly expanding division of East Boldon Alternative Provision.

As demand for our specialist outreach service continues to grow across the North East, we’re looking for the right people to grow with us.

📍 Location: North East
🤝 Contract: Flexible

About Us

The Outreach Team is a rapidly growing service. We work with children and young people who are currently without an education and need support where they are — at home, in the community, or in hospital.

Our outreach model is built on stringent safeguarding standards and recording systems, with a strong focus on honesty, transparency, and never refusing a child or family.

We specialise in working with children whose circumstances are complex, where previous attempts have broken down, or where engagement has been difficult. If anything, those are the reasons we are here.

The Role

We are recruiting Outreach Workers to deliver education, engagement, and support sessions to children and young people who cannot currently access school.

Your work may include:

* Home based education sessions
* Community based learning (e.g., travel training, independence skills)
* Hospital based education for children receiving medical care
* Building relationships with families who have experienced repeated breakdowns
* Recording attendance, engagement, and progress after every session
* Working towards the target set by the commissioner

This role suits people who are calm, adaptable, confident working alone, and able to build trust quickly with children who may be anxious, withdrawn, or reluctant to engage.

Who We Are Looking For

You do not need to be a qualified teacher — we welcome applicants from education, youth work, social care, alternative provision, residential childcare, mentoring, or any background where you have supported vulnerable young people.

Essential Qualities:

* Strong safeguarding awareness
* Ability to work independently and travel between sessions
* Confidence supporting children with complex needs
* Clear, accurate written communication
* Reliability and professional integrity
* A calm, patient, relationship focused approach

Desirable:

* Experience in AP, SEND, SEMH, youth justice, or hospital education
* Experience recording engagement
* Ability to adapt learning to different environments

What We Offer

* Flexible working patterns
* Supportive team and clear safeguarding structure
* Training in our recording systems
* Sector leading transparency and communication
* Competitive rates, with reduced overheads passed directly into the service

⚽ A FANTASTIC FIRST DAY BACK | RECREATIONAL SPORT PATHWAY 💚

What a brilliant way to begin the new term at East Boldon Alternative Provision.

Today wasn’t simply about returning to lessons. It was about reconnecting, rebuilding routines, listening to our young people and looking forward to what we can achieve together this year.

We began our morning by taking time to settle back in, reconnect with one another and talk about expectations for the term ahead.

Most importantly, we listened.

We asked our young people what they would like to achieve, what they enjoyed previously and what they would like to build upon this year.

Because at EBAP, we believe young people’s voices should be part of shaping their educational experience.

📚 LEARNING WITH PURPOSE

Our morning continued with Maths and English, alongside the pastoral conversations and support that form such an important part of everyday life at EBAP.

PSHE isn’t always something that needs to happen in isolation.

Conversations around choices, expectations, relationships, communication, wellbeing, responsibility and future aspirations can happen naturally throughout the day — helping young people connect learning with the world around them.

Then it was time for the next part of the day…

🚌 Onto the minibus and off to explore our new sports facilities!

Our Recreational Sport learners had the opportunity to take part in football practice before accessing the on-site gym.

But once again, the activity itself was only part of the learning.

⚽ Working together as a team
🤝 Communicating with one another
💪 Building confidence
🎯 Setting individual goals
🧠 Making decisions
👏 Encouraging others
❤️ Supporting positive physical and emotional wellbeing
⭐ Experiencing achievement

It was fantastic to watch our young people communicating, cooperating and working alongside one another so positively.

We also explored what else the centre can offer our learners throughout the year.

🏊 Swimming
🥊 Boxing
🏸 Badminton
🎱 Snooker
🎾 Squash
🏋️ Gym activities
⚽ Football
…and much more.

Again, learner voice mattered.

We talked about the different opportunities available and listened to which activities our young people would like to experience and develop further.

Because Recreational Sport at EBAP isn’t simply about being physically active.

It’s an opportunity to develop teamwork, communication, resilience, self-discipline, confidence, healthy routines and positive relationships — skills that extend far beyond sport.

And this is only day one.

Seeing the smiles, engagement and teamwork today has made us incredibly excited about what this group can achieve together over the coming term.

Real experiences. Purposeful learning. Young people having a voice in their future.

When practical skills, collaboration and purposeful learning come together, the results speak for themselves. 🌱

From building the Greenhouse to preparing, planting, watering, feeding and finally harvesting, our young people have been involved in every stage of this project.

And just look at the results! 🍅🥒🫑

We could not be prouder of what our students and staff have achieved together. The commitment, enthusiasm and teamwork that have gone into this project have been exceptional — and the outcome is a real credit to everyone involved. From an initial idea to an incredible harvest, they have truly surpassed expectations.

But the real value goes far beyond what has been grown.

Hands-on learning gives our students the opportunity to develop practical skills, problem-solving, teamwork, responsibility and resilience — while experiencing the satisfaction of seeing a project through from an idea to a tangible outcome.

Learning by doing. Creating with purpose. Seeing the results.

And this is just a glimpse of what’s to come…

We’ve been busy developing our site, creating new learning spaces and introducing brand-new vocational pathways to provide even more engaging, enriching and purposeful opportunities for our students.

We look forward to welcoming our students back next week as we begin an exciting new chapter, with new spaces, new pathways and even more opportunities to learn, develop and achieve.

His daily duties include:

🚙 Vehicle inspections
💧 Watering can quality control
🐕 Supervising the dog
🌱 Garden monitoring
👀 Keeping a close eye on absolutely everybody

If there’s mischief to be found, Thor will find it.
If there’s somewhere he’s not supposed to be, Thor will be there.

And if you’re trying to get a job done, expect a fluffy supervisor to appear from nowhere and make sure you’re doing it properly.

Life with Thor is never dull, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! 🤍🐾
