Match report for the Farnsfield Cricket Club
Apologies for no match report on last weekβs great win over clumber, our weekly reporter was busy at work and his apprentice is still struggling how to turn a computer on. So this week the lads were up against early league leaders Farnsfield. Both teams were up and about warming up at 11am. With some fantastic drills being led by fitness instructor Gary Andrews. The Coin was flipped and Captain Wayne Spooner decided to have a bowl. It looked to be a great decision with some great opening bowling by Daren Andrews and Jake Wells, Having the visitor 57/3 with Wells and Andrews taking one apiece and Matt Makings taking the third coming on for Wells. A dropped catch cost Andrews his spell with Spooner coming on and adding a 4th film to the franchise Oceans 11. But in come Vataly Wilkinson who from the first ball drove Makings down the ground for 4. This would then lead Wilkinson to a total of 135 hitting some huge 6βs into gardens and on the road. Would that drop in the 90s become costly??? A huge shout out needs to go to Joseph Worrall who kept the crowd entertained with 9 runs off 43 balls sticking around while Wilkinson carried the batting line up. Farnsfield would eventually finish on 288 for 9 with the second highest runs coming from number 9 Alex Hudson (33).
Tea was called and the sound of lunch boxes could be heard around the ground. Paul Van Den Heuvel and Will Shaw stepped up to the task ahead and added 19 runs before Paul fell to a rash shot by his standards and caught at cover. In comes the big man. And 11 balls later with 0 to his name the big man was walking back. Many supporters (including himself) have said he was very unlucky with the non-bounce produced from the delivery but a few experts have said the balance on his front foot was all wrong. Iβm sure Trav will be working on this all week. Bridon were now on the back foot at 26 for 3 with Makings joining the 0 club with Trav. But in moments of a struggle. When the momentum is against you. A hero steps up. Unfortunately Bruce Wayne was busy so in come Nic Legg and how glad we was Bruce was busy because a cracking partnership developed. 126 Between Will Shaw and Nic legg gave both batsman their 50s and the Farnsfield lads were baffled at what to do next. The men in Black walking around the ground couldnβt give advice on this one. Appeal after appeal could be heard for miles. But no joy as the batsman was never out. Most notable the appeal from deep square leg running towards the umpire shouting βthatβs out, thatβs outβ well even now mate itβs still not out. A breakthrough eventually came as Will Shaw hit one straight to the fielder and then fireworks began. Celebrations turned into chaos as fielders surrounded Shaw and celebrated like he finally turned up to warm up on time. Coach Agent K then run onto the field to calm things down and was disgusted by the behaviour of his team. Wickets began to tumble as skipper Wayne Spooner was once again closely ran out (close if you looked away in fear and then laughter and missed the ending). But Legg kept going. Eventually falling on 72 bringing an end to brilliant innings showing grit and determination. Bridon eventually bowled out for 188. A great game that shows one innings can carry a team and that even with the backs against the wall this Bridon team wonβt give up and will stick together as one. The lads can bounce back with 20 points against Papplewick and Linby Saturday.

Match report from last weekends derby victory against Retford Cricket Club
Derby Day, a day for drama, intense rivalry and a hostile crowd flocking to the grounds in there thousandsβ¦.And then we remembered Arsenal vs Manchester United wasnβt that much of a big deal anymore so it was down to Ordsall Bridon vs Retford CC. Both teams were keen from the get go with warm ups in full swing. Lead by Mr Motivator himself Gary Andrews, He made sure all 10 players that was warming up was ready from the off. The umpires called for captains and the toss was made. Wayne Spooner coming up trumps and electing to bowl. This also pleased the Retford captain who fancied a bat and putting a big total on the board.
A new opening bowling partnership was formed with Daren Andrews and Overseas Travis Doyle. With a great start from both bowlers, batsman G. Mann must of realised he left the his kettle on the stove and started opening up scoring 24 off 22 with a strike rate of 109.09 before being caught by Mr never on time Will Shaw off Andrews. Travis soon joined the party with a great caught and bowled to dismiss the overseas Damel Evelyn. Wickets began to tumble with a superb run out from Jake Wells and Matt Makings taking Redfordβs skipper caught behind. A nice partnership then started between Nathan Singleton and Oliver Rossington before Wayne βJeremy Snapeβ Spooner joined the party. Taking 5 wickets and restricting Retford to 159 all out. A great bowling performance from the team with special mentions to Nick Legg behind the stumps and outfield player Paul Van Den Heuvel who proved that even at fine leg to mid-offβ¦you canβt hide fielders in this game.
Time for some Lunch.
Bridon started the run chase with Paul Van Den Heuvel and Will Shaw. A great moment for Will who was batting at 5 last week because even as vice-captain didnβt realise cricket starts at 12pm now. Things got off to a shaky start for Bridon with Van Den Heuvel out with only facing 2 balls for 1 run. Even now he is still wondering βHowβ. But anyway back to the entertainment. Will Shaw and Travis Doyle started to open up. Playing some brilliant cricket shots along the way. Most notable From Shaw who played a lovely Beamer from Mr Retford before a warning was given. Shaw was eventually out for 40 off 35 balls with skipper Spooner making his way to the crease. After a few sighters and a free hit available Spooner played a beautiful shot for six over mid-on which left all 27 supporters in applause. It came to the 20th over and the winning runs were hit with Travis finishing on 73 not out and Spooner 30 not out. A great win and the first 20 points of the season for the boys. They head into this weekβs game full of confidence away at Clumber.

Ordsall Bridon Cricket Club
Ordsall Bridon Cricket Club is a volunteer-run, community cricket club in Ordsall, Retford. Originally part of the Bridon Ropeworks site, the club has been active in Retford and based at the current location for 81 years and is a proud part of the history and heritage of Ordsall.
The club receives no external funding, other than what we generate ourselves. Despite this, with two senior teams and over 100 junior members, Ordsall Bridon is a thriving local concern, and is at the heart of the Ordsall community. The club creates opportunities for many children and young people to participate and excel in sport, including the most disadvantaged children in our community, some of whom have had the opportunity to play at County level.
