πŸ›‘οΈ FROM BULLYING TO BELIEVING πŸ›‘οΈ

This story is so close to our hearts. ❀️

When one son was struggling with bullying, his family came to us looking for confidence and protection. Fast forward to today... and now all 5 children train together! πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

Martial arts does more than just teach kicks and punches. It teaches:
βœ… Self-belief
βœ… Respect
βœ… How to stand tall and feel safe

It is amazing to see how training transformed their lives and brought the whole family together. πŸ’«

Here at Canton Martial Arts we are a freestyle karate school focused on practical and applicable techniques.

Our primary influences come from two styles of karate, both of which our founder Richard Canton has spent time studying and training. These are Shotokan and Goju Ryu, here is a little background information about both!!

πŸ₯‹ Shotokan

Founder: Gichin Funakoshi
Focus: Strong, linear movements, deep stances, powerful strikes, and long-distance techniques.

πŸ₯‹ Goju-ryu

Founder: Chojun Miyagi
Meaning: β€œHard-Soft Style”
Focus: Balances hard, powerful blocks/strikes with soft, circular, flowing movements and close-range techniques. Includes breathing exercises and many traditional Okinawan roots.

Karate began on the island of Okinawa, blending local fighting techniques with Chinese martial arts brought by trade and cultural exchanges. Initially it was taught secretly and only to trusted students, since weapons were banned there.

πŸš€ First Step: Mainland Japan

In the early 1900s, a master named Gichin Funakoshi introduced karate to mainland Japan. He simplified and standardized its forms, renamed it β€œkarate” (meaning β€œempty hand”), and taught it in universities. This turned it from a hidden art into an organized discipline.

✈️ Spreading Worldwide

- 1920s–1930s: Japanese teachers began traveling abroad, and students from other countries came to Japan to train.

- Post-WWII (1940s–1950s): American and European soldiers stationed in Japan and Okinawa learned karate, then brought it home after their service. This was the biggest push for its global spread.

- 1960s–1970s: Movies, TV shows, and books made karate famous worldwide. Schools opened across Europe, North America, Latin America, and beyond.

- Today: Karate is practiced by millions. It became an official Olympic sport at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

More than just a hobbyβ€”it’s a family journey! πŸ₯‹βœ¨

In this video, Mary shares why she decided to sign both her son and daughter up for Canton Martial Arts. It wasn’t just about the physical activity; it was about finding a supportive environment where her kids could grow in confidence and discipline.

The best part? Mary now trains right alongside them! Watching your children succeed is one thing, but succeeding together is a whole new level of "family goals."

πŸ€” IS ONCE A WEEK TRAINING ENOUGH? πŸ€”

We get asked this all the time... and the honest answer is NO. ❌

In this video, we share our honest opinion on why training just once a week often isn't enough to see real progress, build strong habits, or master the techniques. πŸ“‰

To get the best results, you need:
βœ… Consistency – Muscle memory takes time to build! 🧠
βœ… Retention – You remember so much more when you train regularly. πŸ“
βœ… Confidence – The more you train, the stronger and safer you feel. πŸ’ͺ

If you want to grow, improve and get the most out of your martial arts journey, consistency is key! πŸ”‘
