Top tips if you are planning a visit this weekend.

🚗 Car parks fill quickly, consider taking the bus if you're local
🌊 Check tide times when visiting the beach and river
🔥 High fire risk - bring a picnic not a BBQ (yes, still!)
⚠️ Stay 5m away from the edge and base of the chalk cliffs
💧 Bring water and hat - theres not much shade in the park

If you can, visiting at quieter times makes a more enjoyable visit.

Great news! We now have four mobility scooters available for visitors to explore the accessible path to the beach.

Two more scooters have been adopted as part of the legacy of , led by the National Trust and supported by thanks to National Lottery players - continuing to help more people access and enjoy the South Downs.

Available to prebook for two hour sessions between 10.30am - 12.30pm or 1.30pm - 3.30pm. Booking is free, but a suggested £5 donation towards upkeep is always appreciated. Advance booking advised. Visit website for all the details.

Managing water levels during a dry summer is tricky when we rely on rainfall and higher tides.

After recent very high tides, sluice gates have been opened to move water around the park from the meanders to the saltings.

Now we need some rain!

291.92 hours.

That's the amount of time our litter picking volunteers have given since April - enough time to watch 146 two-hour films in a row.

And that's only part of the story, every day Rangers, local community and visitors give their time to pick up bags of discarded rubbish. Thank you! 💚

Imagine what we could do for nature with all that time if everyone simply took their litter home or used the bins in the car parks.

It's Eastbourne International Airshow this weekend, so expect roads and bus services in the area to be busier than usual.

We're expecting another busy weekend with car parks filling quickly and footpaths busy throughout the day.

You'll find three along the South Downs Way, each capturing a view that helps us to monitor the landscape over time; seeing the impacts of the climate change and our conservation work.

Sometimes you need to look up to spot our wildlife!

Little Egrets are small white herons and a popular resident on the meanders or up in the trees during nesting season.

Please keep dogs on a lead. Conservation grazing sheep, cows and ponies are in the dry valley and meanders ⚠️

We're saddened by a dog attack on one of the Clapham Farm grazing sheep early this morning. The sheep has returned to the farm for treatment.

A reminder to keep your dog on a lead near grazing animals and look out for signs on gates to highlight where they are.

Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 it is a criminal offence if a dog attacks, chases or causes distress to grazing sheep and other farm animals.

Surveying our species and habitats keeps our rangers busy at this time of year.

Taking the time to record everything they see in a survey quadrant over the summer is an important part of our monitoring. As our summers get hotter this will be even more important for us to monitor the impacts of climate change on the park.
