Toppers, Teras and more Toppers.

Our Beech Bums have had an amazing weekend on the water - we're so proud of your determination, perseverance and continued success.

Emily, Artie, Claudia and Cain attended the L&SE Topper training on Sat in big breeze. I gather there were capsizes and smiles in equal measures!

On Sunday, there was some excellent Tera training at BBSC where all participants did brilliantly. With over 50 tacks each, in order to perfect their roll techniques, Graeme, Mark and Jo certainly put the sailors through their paces.

And while that was going on at home, we had two teams of Toppers at a Topper team racing event in Canterbury. They'd had two training sessions with Jenny, from Sevenoaks School, which obviously stood them in good stead. The Orange team (Artie, Will L, Ollie and Hayden) finished third and the Blue team (Will R, Cameron, Emily and Cain) finished 8th. A fantastic achievement for them at their first team racing event.

All of the Beech Bums sailors have been fantastic at putting their learning into practice, supporting each other and getting stuck in. Really well done to you all.

Air Ambulance Pursuit Race report in Yachts and Yachting...

For the first time in some years, we think the last one was in 2018, Bough Beech SC hosted a pursuit race to benefit the Kent Air Ambulance.

He's done it again! What a great summer Paul has had, with more championship titles than we've had rain showers - this time RS 500 National Champions with Fresh, at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club.
Huge congratulations to you both 🥳👏

Air Ambulance Pursuit Race - 31st August.

It was very successfully reinstated this year but does anyone know when the last one was held?

90 minutes of racing for the slowest boats (Toppers in this case) with the fastest boat (a lone Musto) sailing for 55 minutes. The RO set a very long course which allowed sailors to really stretch their (sea) legs around the course, with most completing 4 or 5 laps.

The finish was interesting in that the RO went out onto the course to finish the lead boat at 90 minutes, then travelled backwards round the course noting the finishing positions of each boat as they passed them. Those who had read the SIs knew to carry on sailing (no overtaking) until the rib confirmed they had finished. Those who hadn't read the SIs heard the finish sounds and sailed in! However, some good powers of deduction allowed the race team to give all sailors a position.

We raised a fantastic £350 for the Air Ambulance which we were able to share with Mike, who is one of their volunteers. He shared some really interesting information about the charity and the amount it costs to run the service every year.

(An apology to the Bums for the disaster of a post yesterday. This has worked first time so I can only assume it is something to do with the downloading.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again...better late than never...

Photo dump part 1 from Bums week - I think they say it all and show how much fun was had both on and off the water, by adults, children and teens alike.

Well done to all the youngsters for all they have achieved - your instructors were so proud of all your learning, development and growth across the week.

🤩 Wow! Wow! And more wow! 🤩

⛵️ What an amazing Bums week our young sailors have had. They were absolutely buzzing every day, coming off the water, having sailed, paddleboarded, windsurfed, raced and sailed some more. ⛵️

🌟This could not have happened without our brilliant Senior Instructors, Jo, Bel and Bex, who spent many hours planning and preparing for this week. I know you will all join me in thanking them for their incredible effort and time spent before and during this week to make sure our junior sailors had the best week ever! 🌟

I'd like to thank all the other instructors (Matt, Dave, Chris, Richard, Mark, Duncan, Graeme, Jonathan, Andy, Jenny & Brian), shore based crew (Diana, Denise, OODs), race officers (Ernie, Barbara and team), safety teams (Stephen, Xander and other crews) and Jess (and helpers, including Andy) in the galley for getting fully involved, giving up their time and supporting our Bums week. It could not have happened without all of your help! 👏

🥳 I would also like to give a mention to our older youth sailors, who planned and brilliantly executed evening entertainment activities, including a quiz, a treasure hunt and other games. I was so impressed by your confidence, willingness to help and support that you offered to the very tired adults - I know it was really appreciated

🙈The danger of naming everyone is that I might have forgotten someone - if I have, please assume you are included in the thanks and I'm very sorry if I've accidentally missed you off!
