Unilateral exercises are single-leg or single-arm movements.
The primary benefit of including unilateral exercises in your training programs is that the exerciser is using both sides of the body equally.
Doing uni-lateral movements stops you from overtraining dominant muscles so each side gets trained equally, helping to isolate and correct muscle imbalances which can aid in injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Unilateral lower-body exercises include:
🤍side lunges
🤍forward/reverse lunges
🤍box step ups
🤍single leg deadlifts/squats
Unilateral upper- body exercises include:
🤍single arm rows
🤍single arm shoulder/chest press
🤍single arm tricep extension/bicep curls
