Phew that's the Meadows Festival weekend over and what a blast it's been.

Today we had some new players having a shot of shinty at our taster session. Then we had a good crowd of about 20 of all ages, new players , parents, coaches and club players join in for our community match. We played for 45 mins, I think that was the limit for the parents and coaches , pretty sure the younger ones could have kept going!

Following swiftly on from that was the final CSYSA Primary tournament of the year with clubs from East Lothian Shinty Club , Aberdour Shinty Club , Glasgow Gaels Shinty Club , Glenn Dail, Stirling Camanachd, Strathkelvin, and of course our own club, taking part.

The games, as usual, were in 3 levels, P1-3 (Development), P4/5 and under and P6/7 and under.
The weather was kinder to us today and we got through all the games by 4pm.
Winners of the P4/5 league for 2024/2025 were Aberdour Black, runners up Aberdour White, and winners of the P6/7 league for 2024/2025 were Gaels Red and runners up Aberdour.

Well done all players in all the clubs!

A special thank you is deserved to all the volunteers we had helping out. From putting up/dismantling goals, collecting cones, pitch coordinators to referees. We couldn't have run our event, Saturday or Sunday, without your help and commitment.

Thanks also to all the parents and coaches of all the clubs getting through today and helping keep things moving and supporting the players!

See you next year hopefully!

It was a great day at the Meadows Festival today, although damp at times. We had a great training session led by the Tayforth Ladies Shinty with a wee game with all the young players to round things off, with star appearances from both Tayforth Camanachd and Tayforth Ladies. The mens seniors game Tayforth v Bute went ahead as planned. A great game, unfortunately Tayforth just lost out and final score was Tayforth 1 Bute 2. Well done Bute and we hope you enjoyed your trip through.

We're looking forward to our taster session on Sunday 10:30 - 11:30, followed by a community game (all welcome) from 11:30 to 12:30. Followed swiftly by us hosting the Central Youth Shinty Association Primary outdoor league completion from 1pm.-4pm, where young teams from Glasgow Gaels Shinty Club , Aberdour Shinty Club , Glen Dail, East Lothian Shinty Club , Stirling Camanachd , Strathkelvin and Edinburgh of course will be joining us to see who is the winner of the Primary League completions for Primary 4/5 and Primary P6/7. Come and watch, join in, help, it will be great to see you there.

Pop quiz. Anyone seen the new DeptQ series on Netflix? If so, can anyone guess what the connection between DeptQ and our club is?

Great Summer Fun Session today for our last session before the Summer Holidays.
Thanks to everyone, parents and players and volunteers, who took part in our Summer session today. Our players took part in Beat the keeper, longest hit, keepy uppies and most accurate hit competitions. Our day was rounded off by a parents/coaches v players game and then a bbq. It was a great, competitive game, our players came out 5-2 victors despite our best efforts, maybe next year!

A great day of training sessions, taster sessions and a community game at the end to round the day off! The coaches/parents v players competition was a hard fought battle, a 5-5 draw seemed fair in the end. Was also great to see some players who had never picked up a shinty stick before playing in the community game at the end!

That's the Uddingston v Aberdour Shinty Club mens game finished. Cracking weather and cracking shinty! Well done to Aberdour who came out winners.
I'm sure there will be some disgruntled players/supporters/coaches because of the grass not having been cut. Unfortunately we were let down by The City of Edinburgh Council on Friday who had said they would cut the grass, but despite cuttng grass in two other areas on the Meadows left ours uncut. Despite that we made our best efforts with a home lawnmower to make the most of what we had. Again, sorry if anyone was unhappy about the pitch, we did our best.

Here's a picture of a Hamish trying to encourage players to play wide.

Thanks to all the volunteers and clubs for making this a great spectacle, and Alison Howat for refereeing on the day.

Looking forward to the youth sessions tomorrow
