And that’s a wrap!
Following the embarrassing apoplectic mock rage by those utterly consumed with Hutchie Envy and triggered by our children winning games of football, we have decided to close our page.
Out of respect for our club chairman and this historical grassroots footballing giant we believe it is now the right thing to do.
This unfortunately for so many of you will be our last and final post on social media. We now have a squad and team we are immensely proud of and believe the page has served it’s purpose. We no longer need to ‘sell ourselves’, we know we are on the tip of so many tongues.
The page itself was set up a few years ago when we took over an age group completely broken, an age group ripped apart, with no coaches and too many players, yet those first few weeks at Saughton with about 30 lost wee souls of all abilities, from Beckham to Pele, mostly Beckham and Zidane it has to be said, were some of the most enjoyable nights coaching at this magnificent club. What a laugh we had. And with the enjoyment at training, excitement at games and quality of coaching came a stronger calibre of player and we very quickly saw the age group grow from strength to strength.
We took the players to their first ever festivals in Scotland, to their first ever tournaments in England, where they got their first ever medals. Participation or not, it meant everything to they boys and their smiles meant everything to us. There was Academy games and there was trips abroad. There were sponsors aplenty and there was more kit than Colin Campbell. The boys were spoiled rotten and everyone was loving it. There was a real buzz about the place.
Our very first open day was the catalyst to the promised land, ESSDAs Pele league. We signed 2 terrific players from that open day and another one shortly after and bit by bit the word got out that Hutchie were doing ok again…..and more players came. Pele players. Players who had played for teams against us and hammered us, they still wanted to come here. The interest was overwhelming. And then there were more tournaments, more festivals, more trips abroad and we actually started winning them. The boys won their first trophies here at Hutchie. Trophies won in Newcastle, Manchester, Fife, Spain, even back home in Edinburgh. What a ride we were on.
The age group grew so big it had to split. Our top team went solo and after two tremendous half seasons at Pele level entered 11 asides at the top table, in amongst all the big dogs, with many teams choosing to step down a level we stood strong and took the plunge in Division 1. An incredible achievement considering where we were just a few short years ago. Yes we may be sitting bottom of the table, yes we may be out of our depth at this level, but we are there and we will try our best to compete with the best that this region has to offer. If we fall short, we fall short but we know we will have a great time doing it. I guess the biggest compliment now is our players are being tapped up by other teams in the league so we must be doing something right, even if results are not one of them! Yeah, we see you. We know.
Which brings us to today……
Some will say the luck of the draw. And they could be right, well, they are right. There’s no question we have been very lucky with earlier cup draws, i mean 72 goals scored in just 4 cup ties with only 2 conceded against 2 Div 2 teams and 2 Div 3 teams is ridiculous and that luck will run out soon enough, we know that. But running to Hampden and the league secretary about us posting the actual score of games is about as pathetic as anyone can get. And we have a fair idea who that is too……you should be utterly ashamed of yourself.
Sadly the high scoring victories appear to be over, for this season certainly. It looks like we’ve had our last gimme.
We now have 2 proper competitive fixtures this week and next which may well see us eliminated from both cups and many of you will no doubt raise a glass to that but we will carry on regardless. Giving our all. Trying out best. Hoping to win more than we lose. Because that is what we do here.
You won’t break us. You’ve merely strengthened our resolve. And we cannot wait to play you, again.
For the record before we go, absolutely no one has told us to remove the post or rapped our knuckles. The word from the league and Hampden was merely a reminder to be careful what we post.
So it’s now over to our loyal band of followers and supporters to spread the good word of Hutchison Vale 2013s Division 1 team instead. You know what to do……
Hutchison Vale 2013s Division 1 Team, out. xx

We take no pleasure in the result but nor shall we feel ashamed to post about it. This is competitive football afterall. We will however save you the fawning over how well we played and how ruthless our boys were. The parents and boys can fill you in on that! 💪
Anyway, job done, in the hat for the last 32. 🏆
Massive credit to the referee today, despite cutting the game short by at least 5 mins, standing strong to allow the game to go ahead in very difficult conditions, on an horrendous pitch, even if the sun was shining, which it wasn't! Conditions may I add, our boys rendered utterly irrelevant.
Next up for these amazing kids is East Calder at home next Sunday in the South East Region Cup.
