Tired of losing your arrows behind the target?
Fed up with getting the metal detector out?
Same! That’s why at Laleham we’re trialling tying arrows to strings that are pre-tied to the targets!
Just tie them onto your arrows and if you miss, follow the string! Genius 😎

Applications are now invited for Eastern Area squad
Squad Information,
Criteria and Application
2026
Dear Eastern Area Member,
The Eastern Area Committee is now looking for applications from archers for the Eastern Area Squad 2026. If you are interested in applying, please read the information below, complete the attached application form and submit to:
[email protected]
If you have any further questions, please feel free to send them to the above-mentioned email address.
What is the Area Squad and how does it work?
Squad
The Eastern Area Squad is open to anyone affiliated to the Eastern Area who has achieved a minimum of 2nd Class Bowman level and above in the outdoor season of 2025 and who is not yet on National Squad.
In 2026 there will be one Squad with a maximum of 16 Archers. It is hoped that there will be an even representation from each of the 4 bow styles, Female and Open categories but this will depend on applications received.
The highest ranked archer in each bow style will be invited onto Squad.
It is hoped that the Area Squad will develop the skills of our archers to assist them to achieve selection for the Scottish National Squad.
Members of the Area Squad will be given priority selection for any Area Team representation events provided they meet the necessary criteria.
Coaches
Area Squad coaches are taken from the Eastern Area, unless a more specialist coach is needed who does not live in the Eastern Area.
Squad Coaches will be licensed Coaches and committed to assisting Squad Members develop their skills.
Training Sessions and Attendance
4 training sessions have been planned for the summer – 12 April, 10 May, 28 June, 2 August – all to be held at Balbardie Archers in Bathgate.
All archers are expected to attend a minimum of 3 out of the 4 training sessions.
Archers accepting a place on Squad will be expected to pay for all 4 training sessions. (Costs still to be confirmed and is likely to be in the region of £20 per session). Unfortunately, the cost of renting facilities for training can be costly and the Eastern Area cannot cover the full cost.
Online meetings may be arranged as and when required.
Squad shirts
Any archer representing the Eastern Area at a Team competition must wear an Eastern Area shirt and comply with all other clothing rules set out in the AGB Rules of Shooting.
Selection Criteria
The selection criteria will consist of your 3 best scores from Outdoor Open competitions attended in 2025.
All scores must come from a 720 round and include the longest distance for their bow style, i.e. 70m for Recurve and Longbow and 50m for Compound and Barebow.
The scores do not need to be from competitions only held in Scotland; UK-wide competitions attended can also be included.
Evidence of scores needs to be provided; this can be in a picture/scan of your completed score sheet or an official copy of the results summary which can be found on the Scottish Archery website.
Squad Expectations
For clarification, the EA Committee thought it was important that those applying to join Area Squad were clear on what is expected of them.
As a member of the EA Squad, all archers:
Should show commitment to the Squad.
Should be committed to their own training and development.
Will treat all Squad Members and Coaches with respect.
Will keep a training timetable and a log of training undertaken.
Should reflect on their training and progression and discuss this with their Squad Coach.
Should submit scores from competitions they attend.
Should attend a minimum of 3 (out of the 4) of the arranged Training Sessions.
Should pay fees promptly.
Must comply with the AGB Rules of Shooting and World Archery rules.
Should purchase a Squad shirt as required.
If you have any questions regarding the selection process or Squad questions in general then please contact Simon Garforth on the email address below.

With today being the last day of the league, expectations were high and the excitement rose as we declared today’s winners, followed by the overall champions from the three legs.
The last 3 months have been hugely successful, inspiring many of the participants to take a greater interest in competing and feel confident enough to enter mainstream competitions. 🥇🥈🥉🏹

Today was the second day of our Eastern Area Junior, Novice & Intermediate
league, and it turned out to be a fantastic event and everyone had a great time.
Well done everyone, you all shot well, and we were thrilled to see one of our junior
barebow archers score two impressive 10's, well done Chloe! 👏🏻🏹
We also saw several archers show significant improvement compared to last
month, which was great to witness.
Enthusiasm and confidence is growing, and everyone is already looking forward to the final day of the league next month.
