In addition to running a community workshop to understand more about what might prevent someone in Båtsfjord from attending local social activities and clubs, I spent my time getting to know the wonderful residents and the local social and cultural infrastructure. There is so much space and beautiful design - the new school, the viewing cabins in beauty spots, the church and the creative shops were all enlightening. I imagine the dark winter months when the existing play parks are under snow must be challenging!

The sauna is finished! Well done to the Design in Context Team NTNU - Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet Vestre Varanger Bygdevekst Paul Kerlaff. Can’t wait to come back and work with you all again and to get to know more of the wonderful people and places of Finnmark. Looking forward to seeing how the local residents of Båtsfjord make this wonderful piece of ‘common internet infrastructure’ their own.

This is what #communityconnection is all about. It was so fantastic to be part of the Design in Context project which partnered students from @ntnu with Vestre Varanger Bygdevekst in Finnmark, Norway. Guided by world renowned sauna builder Sami Rintala from @rintalaeggertsson, Per Bue Berntsen from @ntnu and @paulkerlaff from @edinburghnapier the students are designing and building a #communitysauna in just 2 weeks! I consulted stakeholders and ran a community engagement workshop to understand more about what makes good places to meet and to develop meaningful #socialconnections in #båtsfjord. Responding to the community’s needs, the #sauna at @batsfjord.brygge will included a large social area and fire pit where residents and tourists can dance, sing, cook, and anything else they wish to use it for! @eliselundholm @qmuni
