Why is it called forest honey?

Most honey comes from flowers. This one mostly doesn't.

Our Forest Honey is from our family's apiary in the Polish forests, where the bees spend late summer collecting honeydew from fir, pine and oak, with a bit of raspberry and blueberry blossom on the side. It's what makes it so dark, malty and noticeably less sweet.

Lovely in a strong cup of tea. Even better with a sharp cheese.

If you've ever said honey's a bit much, this is the jar to try.

We have new products in store and online! 🐝

You will find beeswax lip balms and solid hand cream bars from Edinburgh Natural Skincare, perfect for keeping your skin feeling soft and mosturised through the changing season. 🍃

There is also a sweet little treat from Cox&Co. A dark chocolate made with Colombian cacao, honey and bee pollen. 🍫

We’re not the only ones thinking about the colder months.

While we’re pulling the heavier coats back out and debating whether it’s too early to put the heating on, the bees are already well into their winter planning.

September is a surprisingly busy month inside the hive. The drones are shown the door, summer bees are being replaced by the longer-lived winter generation, and the colony becomes increasingly protective of the stores that will carry it through the months ahead.

Basically, while we’re still calling it autumn, the bees are already thinking about spring.
