Weather played its part for the first time in the league stages of the Cartier Queen’s Cup. Action turned to The Queen’s Ground at the Club for Ferne Park versus Jindal Steel/La Dolfina, although this game was delayed due to thunder and lightning ⚡️. Vere Harmsworth’s Ferne Park were looking for their third win in Group Two while Jindal Steel/La Dolfina were searching for a first victory after three narrow defeats. Next up was Kazak v Black Bears on The Duke’s Ground, also at Guards Polo Club. Black Bears were looking for their third win and a guaranteed place in this weekend’s quarter-finals. Kazak was focused from the first whistle though. Catch up on the action in our full match report below 👇

The 18-year-old Lorenzo Chavanne continues to deliver for Claudio Porcel’s Balanz Capital. Yesterday he was instrumental in helping this team defeat the defending champions, Andrey Borodin’s Park Place 10-7 in a fast game on The Queen’s Ground. Both teams were hunting their third win of the tournament and so there was plenty at stake. Next up was a win for Adebayo Karim’s Shoreline who were hunting down their first victory. However, they had to take this game to the fourth overtime of the tournament. Ed Banner-Eve did the honours, firing through the winner in the seventh chukka with less than a minute left on the clock.

Yesterday we welcomed the very best of student polo to Smith’s Lawn for the highly anticipated La Martina Varsity Day, a showcase of talent, tradition, and competition in front of a fantastic crowd.

The day began with the Oxford Old Blues taking on the Cambridge Old Blues in a closely contested encounter. After an exciting match, Oxford Old Blues emerged victorious with a narrow 4–3 win. Next up, Harrow School faced Eton College, with Eton College delivering an impressive performance to secure a commanding 9–2 victory.

A new addition to this year’s programme was the Power of Polo Charity Match, featuring Sam Dracott - Farrier and Silly Prune alongside Power of Polo ambassadors and players from Oxford and Cambridge. The entertaining fixture saw both sides competing for the charity trophy, with the Power of Polo OUPC team ultimately claiming the honours with a 9–7 victory.

The final match of the day was the historic Varsity showdown between Oxford University Polo Club and Cambridge University Polo Club Played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the defending champions from Oxford proved a formidable force, producing a dominant display to defeat Cambridge 12–0 and retain the trophy for the 2026 season. The prizes were kindly presented by Cameron Walton-Masters, in memory of his father David Walton-Masters, who was such a champion and supporter of University polo.

Well done to all of the students and players that took part in yesterdays matches 👏
