What a great time the players had today in the second round of our Club Championship 2023! Played over 2 weeks and 36 holes. Contrasting conditions both on the course and the weather made it a tough challenge! Well done to everyone who took part. Special congratulations go to Nett Winner Jan, Nett Runner up, Karen Mallan, Best 18 holes in either round Shelby Bull and Gross Winner Donna Callaghan Swann

Yesterday one of our members Julie was laid to rest after a hard fought battle with Cancer. As a Club we are heartbroken and will always have a Julie shaped hole missing at our Club 💚Julie has been a member at Hooton since 2010 and was Captain in 2014 she was always the life of any Hooton get together and we are lucky to have shared so many beautiful memories with her. Whether it was “loosing” her electric trolly at the 2nd green and eventually finding it upside down in the bushes on the 11th 50ft from the M53 or her exaggerated clues during a game of charades for “guys and dolls” that had us laughing for the whole of our away weekend at Patcschull Park, the mark Julie has left on us is one that we will never forget. Julie’s miraculous ability to manage to sneak in another drink after her sister Shelby would call last orders for her lift home will always raise a smile on our faces. Rest up now Julie…with all of our love….your Hootonites xx

What a weekend we had with all of the Hooton Ladies! On Saturday we had our annual inter club competition against Brackenwood Ladies. The first time we have met up since the pandemic so there were smiles all round. Captain Lou presented Brackenwood with the new “Terry Loins Memorial Trophy” freshly polished and engraved, and in memory of their beloved Past Captain Terry. After a hard fought battle on the course (and lots of fun and laughter) Hooton Ladies came out as winners, receiving the trophy. Brackenwood were the recipients of the runner up prize. After the round Hooton put on a lovely afternoon tea and everyone went home full and happy. We can’t wait for the rematch next year already.
Sunday saw the ladies competing in a Stableford competition for the “Spring Competition Trophy”. Winning with a fab 36 points was our very own “Dolly” Shelby Bull. Great golf Shelb, well done….another plaque with your name on the board!
The course is shaping up really nicely and the weather was kind to us again! Bring on the May Medal next week!

Our friends over at Brackenwood Golf Club are facing the worrying prospect of loosing their lovely course in the latest round of budget cuts by the local council. If anyone would like to help them out and sign this petition I know they would be very greatful. Brackenwood are a Club very close to ourselves and we have played many a great round there over the year.

It’s a bit late in the week but I wanted to get a lovely picture of the amazing woman who’s trophy we played for last week! The annual Gwen Manning Memorial was played for a the club on Sunday 19th of July. Gwen was a long standing member of the club who sadly passed away. She is remembered fondly at the club and is often spoken about at the 19th. A well deserved winner this time round was our amazing chief motivator, rule knower, and all round star Paula! Who won on a back 9 count over Louise! Congratulations P! Gwen must have been smiling down on you! 🌟

🙌🏻 Club Championship 2020 🙌🏻 a hard fought battle at on Sunday saw Debbie win our annual Club Championship by 4 shots over who came in a close second! This was a particularly momentous occasion as medal competitions can prove tough for players with higher handicaps so well done Debbie! Here she is celebrating with a nice glass of Prosecco! A special mention also goes to Karen who came in with an impressive Nett 72. Both Debbie and Karen have now dropped their handicaps! Brilliant news ladies!! Bring on the Gwen Manning Memorial Trophy on Sunday in memory of a beloved member of our Club who is no longer with us ❤️ we also have our inaugural Saturday Stableford competition starting this Saturday to encourage more ladies out onto the course! Thanks for organising this Paula!
