Ellon fought all the way against top of the table Ceylon Deeside but alas fell to their third defeat in a row 🙈
Ellon lost Captain fantastic Ali early. However Leon Bortslap (83) went on the attack and the second wicket Fell for 132. When Jon Barrett went (53) Ellon were 153-4 however A collapse under the best bowling we have faced all year left us bowled out for 176 including 4 ducks .
An under strength bowling attack started brightly with a wicket first ball . Pressure was applied and the score slowly progressed and at 74-4 Ellon were still in the game .
However the no 6 batsman came in and hit a quick 50 to win the game for Ceylon with 4 overs to spare 🙈
A few decisions may of changed the result … but steadfast umpiring saw them home.
This week it’s off to Crathie .

Ellon batted first and a few batsmen made a start but failed to kick on .
At 85-3 only Ross Wade and Morné Van Heerden provided any further resistance both achieving personal best scores .
But 174 didn’t look enough
Ellon needed quick wickets and they didn’t come quick enough .
Gordonians hitting the winning runs with 2.4 overs to spare .
Close but now two losses in a row 😱 after the 9 previous wins 🤷♂️

Thursday brought about a Reid cup T20 game for Ellon .
A strong grade 3 Bon Accord team turned up and Ellon were happy to contain them to 117 off the 20 overs
Muhammad Ayaz 53
Ellon started strongly 65 off the first 10 for no wickets
But the introduction of Muhammad bilal Amin brought two wickets with his first two balls 🙈
Shiraz then bowled tightly from the other end and put Ellon back in trouble
Brian Veldsman looked like he may win it single handed in the last over needing 12 to win … smashed the ball to the boundary fielders signalled six only to be over ruled by the bowler and was down graded to a 4 😱
Desperate for the last winning runs two run outs in the last two balls left us one run short
Brian Veldsman with a fabulous 62
But a great hard fought game that could of gone either way .

Our captain
Ali Addy is "incredibly proud" to be captaining Ellon Gordon Cricket Club this season - and he is also proud that they are unbeaten in the Grade Three league so far in 2026.
Heading into tomorrow’s match with away at Rubislaw against 3rd Aberdeen Grammar, Ellon Gordon have won seven from seven in 10-team division.
It means that they are just behind leaders Ceylon Deeside - who have also won seven from seven but are not playing this weekend - in the standings and an exciting title race beckons over the next couple of months.
One of the highlights of the Ellon Gordon summer so far was Addy hitting a brilliant 151 runs from 114 balls in the win away to 2nd Banchory in May.
However, the early season success has been down to teamwork by the Gordon Park outfit rather than just one individual and Addy, a 31-year-old right handed batter, said: “I think the biggest factor in our good form so far in 2026 has been having a settled side and everyone knowing their role.
“We’ve welcomed a few new players and had some former players come back to the club and they’ve fitted in really well. Different players have stepped up in different games so we’ve not been relying on one or two people to win matches. We’ve created a good environment where everyone wants to contribute and that’s shown in our results so far.
“I grew up in Ellon and Ellon Gordon was the first cricket club I played for. I started as an under-11s player and came through the club’s junior section.
“Since some time away when I was studying, I’ve been back playing for Ellon Gordon for the last 10 seasons and it is my club and one I love representing.
“I became captain ahead of this season and it’s a real privilege to captain a club with such a long history. Ellon Gordon has been around for over 160 years and to lead the team is something that I am incredibly proud of.
“In terms of our league form, well we’d obviously love to be right up there at the top of the table at the end of the season to give ourselves a chance of promotion.
“It’s a long summer though and there’ll be plenty of tough games to come so we’ll just keep taking it one match at a time and hopefully continue playing the brand of cricket we’ve shown so far and keep playing with smiles on our faces.”
