Ely City Youth FC

Ely City Youth FC A full merger took place in 2025, with now Ely City Youth FC operating under the Ely City FC banner as full members of the club.

Originally established in June 2019, Ely City Crusaders was formed following a previous merger with Ely City FC. Ely City Youth FC is the junior and youth wing of Ely City Football Club, one of Cambridgeshire’s oldest and most storied clubs, established in 1885. Recent developments have seen the full integration of Ely City Youth - with its roots in the former Ely City Crusaders youth setup - into a unified pathway stretching from Under-7s right through to senior teams.

Clear development pathway: With the 2025–26 season merger, youth teams formerly under "Crusaders" will now carry the Ely City name and branding, offering a seamless progression from grassroots to adult football

> Strong leadership: A dedicated youth committee, led by newly appointed Youth Chair Mike Younger, supports welfare, coaching, and community values for rising players

> Community focus: Committed to inclusivity and enjoyment, the club emphasises wellbeing, teamwork, and long-term development—both on and off the field .

> Teams & Participation
Age groups: From Under-7s through to Under-18s (and multiple girls’ teams), the club caters for boys and girls at various levels

> Competitive success: Youth teams—including U15s—have achieved league and cup doubles, highlighting the club’s growing competitive edge and player development.

> Girls’ football boost: The girls’ section competes in county leagues and benefits from increased interest and inspiration following the Lionesses' success .

Home ground: Youth teams play their matches and train at The Robins Nest/Demcom Stadium (Downham Road, Ely), alongside the senior squads. Ely City Youth FC is rapidly evolving into a fully integrated, well-supported youth programme within Ely City FC. With strong community backing, dedicated leadership, and successful teams across age groups, it’s a vibrant, welcoming environment for aspiring footballers in Ely. If you're interested in joining, supporting, or learning more, the club welcomes enquiries via their main website, and typically holds open sessions across different age groups.

⚽ INTERESTED IN BECOMING A REFEREE? 🟨🟥

Ely City FC Youth, in partnership with Cambs FA referee coach Chris Abbott is hosting a referee workshop at Ely City FC!

Whether you’re thinking about giving refereeing a go or you’re already a new referee looking to build your confidence, this is a great opportunity to learn more in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The workshop will cover:
⚽ The Laws of the Game, including recent changes
🗣️ Managing players, coaches and supporters
📋 How to manage a game confidently
❓ Plenty of opportunity to ask questions

Who is it for?
The workshop is aimed at anyone who may be interested in refereeing, or who is new to refereeing and wanting to build confidence and knowledge of the game.

👉 You must be aged 14 or over to referee, but if you’re currently 13 and will be turning 14 soon, this is a great opportunity.

Last night, our U17s and U18 Development Team played a friendly at the Demcom Stadium, providing a great opportunity to showcase the youth pathway at Ely City.

The fixture brought together players at different stages of their development, highlighting the pathway from our U16s and U17s into the U18s and, ultimately, towards senior football with the club.

Providing opportunities for our young players to develop, gain experience and progress through the age groups and into our senior teams is an important part of our One Club approach.

Ely City FC U16s Receive Community Boost Ahead of Final Colts Season

Ely City FC U16s have received a welcome boost from the local community as they prepare for their final season of colts football.

The squad, which is entering its second consecutive season in the A Division of the Cambridge & District Colts League, has been generously supported by two local businesses with donations of additional essential training and match equipment.

Ian Kilby from The Fish House Ely, located on Ely Market Square, has sponsored the team with a new large Nike kit bag along with a sack of 12 training balls.

Meanwhile, Stacia from A Little Something Ely, on Market Street opposite The Hereward, has generously provided the squad with 20 reversible training bibs and bag, as well as two quality match balls.

The new equipment will help ensure the U16s have everything they need as they begin their 26/27 campaign and embark on the final chapter of their journey through colts football.

The coaches and players wish to express their sincere thanks to Ian from The Fish House Ely and Stacia from A Little Something Ely for their generosity and continued support of youth football in the Ely community.

Their contributions will give the team an excellent start to what promises to be a memorable final season in colts football.
