The language & folklore of flowers - Sweetpea

The Sweetpea is one of my favourites, the smell and the colours from this little flower fill the garden from early summer, right up to mid autumn, even better, they make great cut flowers to bring the scent and colour indoors too!

In Victorian flower language they were given as a thankyou for a lovely time or to give to someone starting a new chapter in their life

Bringing them into the house is said to bring cheerfulness, good fortune & friendship to the home

Garden realities!
Not everyone will understand a garden grown for nature.

Some people will see w**ds creeping through my paths. I see plantain, dandelion and clover, the hedge is full of bindw**d, every crack is full of daisies, thyme, dandelions and buttercup—plants that feed pollinators, nourish the soil and have been used in traditional remedies for generations.

A wildlife-friendly garden isn't about neglect; it's about intention. It means choosing not to use w**d killers or chemical fertilisers, and that actually creates more work, not less. Keeping flower borders healthy while allowing nature to find its place takes time, patience and plenty of hard graft.

My garden isn't meant to be perfect. It's meant to be alive.

Every bee that lands on a flower, every bird that finds food, every butterfly that visits reminds me why it's worth it. I'd rather have a garden full of life than one that's perfectly manicured but silent.

Nature doesn't ask for perfection. It simply asks for a little space to thrive.

There's always one!

Primrose is the hen that's always under your feet, on the end of your spade when digging and getting into general mischief! Wouldn't have her any other way!

Calendula & Sage
This combo looked so pretty I had to take a photo!
Calendula I use for tea, balms & tinctures. Sage I use mainly for cooking, teas & smudge sticks. Although this looks and smells so lovely I may just keep it as natural pot pourri!

The hens are earning their keep!
The girls have taken their sweet time to get laying regularly, but freshly laid eggs are worth the wait 🥚
