In what feels like very difficult time for outdoor education generally the week has begun with more difficult news. Calvert Devon and its 30 + year legacy of providing opportunities for people with a disability to participate in outdoor activities is to close at the end of the month.

In my work at Accessible Adventures Ireland CIC I sometimes come across adventurers who have the use of one arm. This could be for a variety of reasons. I wanted to create something bespoke that looked really good and had a bit of beauty in it.
I give you the “Curlew Paddle” the loom is steam bent ash strips laminated and the blade a mix of Ash and Cedar. This prototype model used the recycled clamp from a crutch, but Will in time be replaced in similar style to the paddle.

Do you want to come celebrate National Walking Day with us? We are currently gathering expressions of interest from women who would be interested in participating in a hike on Sunday 27th September. The route will be planned based on numbers of interested people but it is likely to take place in the Dublin/Wicklow area. Transport can be arranged if required.

Right to Risk.
A really important discussion. I’ve had a few conversations lately with people who have a disability and how society, amidst a pile of other discriminatory practices assumes that people can’t take decisions for themselves about risk.
It’s a wider topic in a society that is increasingly risk averse than merits discussion. Nice we video from The North Face challenging some of that thinking
