Saturday the 18th of August saw the second “Langman Cup” in memory of the late great Roy Langman.
As before all manner of wonderful folk descended upon Epsom Polo Club from Sebastian Dawneys wonderful arts and sculptures, rj polos gifts and polo trinkets, to champagne and oysters. And if you wanted something more in between then there were a host of caterers on hand providing burgers and pizza and all manner of mischief to make it such a wonderful day, and keep everyone well fed!

Proceedings kicked off with a race between a classic racing car and a polo pony, this time the lovely “Gallilea” ridden by Ryan Anderson, and despite plenty of noise and excitement from the racing car, the polo pony proved to have more than enough horsepower to win again (We’ll give the car a head start next year!)

The main event for the Langman cup pitted husband and wife combo the Solanets against each other as Jean baptist solanets FLY VICTOR team took to the field against Charlotte solanets MARY-CURIE.
In a fast paced and highly entertaining match the first two chukkas were neck and neck, high speed runs from Serena taylor and Jean Baptist Solanet, were matched by Stephanie phizackerly and Sarah brown, a midfield duel between Charlotte Solanet and Tina taylor, and the two Anderson brothers keeping the crowd entertained and things tidy, as both teams sussed each other out and space was at a premium.
But then things really got cooking in the third chukka as both sets of strikers burst into life with 3 goals apiece, so it was all to play for in the last chukka, both teams raced up and down searching for a suitably entertaining goal for victory and it duly came as Lance Anderson raced under pressure from one end of the field to the other to score the winning goal with seconds left!..

The second match of the day saw a round robin between 3 very strong teams from the HAC, Deloitte, and an EPC,
The Deloitte team played brilliantly with some particularly impressive individual performances, ultimately finishing in third place leaving a “Final between the HAC team of Sophie Morrison, Louise brown, Izzy Gathercole, and Scott Anderson who took to the field against the EPC team of Lisa Knight, Luc Trafford, Helen Gillman, and Ryan Anderson.
In a absolutely barnstorming game featuring strong and highly competitive polo from all the players, sibling rivalry at its finest!, and a host of runs from end to end to keep the crowds entertained, a dazzling performance from young Scott Anderson was enough to secure victory for his side, and bragging rites until next year!.

And as last year an incredible raffle where a football shirt signed by the whole Tottenham team, was joined by hampers, and gifts from every corner of the globe to fill the raffle to bursting point and send pretty much everyone home with a highly impressive prize!

On behalf of Epsom Polo Club, we would like to extend our warmest thank you’s to everyone who came and made the event such a success and so special, and I’m sure those watching from above were suitably entertained!

We look forward to welcoming you all back next year!

Saturday the 30th of September saw the first "Langman Cup" which even by our standards was an amazingly successful day.
Champagne and oyster bars lined the sides of the pitch along with all manner of other food and drink, classic cars, racing cars, and all kinds of fun going on.

The day began with the curtain raiser race between a classic racing car, and a polo pony.
with the suspense palpable,, the horse came out the winner in a drag race of 150yrds.

Then it was on to the main game for the Langman cup, between the home Epsom polo club team of,

Kate eadie
Jason mcreight
Charlotte solanet (Langman)
And Ryan Anderson.

Vs the Hac team of,

Will shadbolt
Julian bowman
Louise brown
And Lucy bowman.

The match was a great spectacle of end to end polo, with the players pulling out all the stops for victory.
In the end and fittingly for the day, with Roy looking down on us all, his daughter charlotte solanet (Langman) stole the show for her team, scoring 3 goals and making some wonderful saving plays, to help her team to victory, ably supported by her strong and well mounted team mates..

Then an amazing raffle, where all manner of awesome and ridiculous prizes were won by the lucky visitors, including, classic guitars, all kinds of booze and depravity, and a holiday to Barbados!.

Then to bring the day to a close, the second part of the Langman cup, was staged between 3 teams in a round robin format.
The teams of,

Veridis and co,
Stephanie Phizackerly/Sarah brown
Jean baptist Solanet
Tina Taylor
Callum Anderson.

Joyce Guinness,
Lisa knight
Justin Taylor
Scott Anderson
Ryan Anderson

Artumes and co,
Helen Tillman/nick palmer
Jason turner
Izzy Gathercole
Lance Anderson

Battled out for victory. The hundreds of spectators were treated to 3 great matches. producing a great spectacle, with long range goals, cunning play, and tactical genius showed by all the players.
In the end the artumes and co team emerged victorious by half a goal over veridis and co..
The presentation was an equally joyful, champagne showered, hysteria.. and the fantastic prizes, a theme of the day, were well received by all!..

On a personal note, we would like to extend our humblest gratitude to everyone who donated prizes, presents for the raffle. Photographers and commentators, and to all the players who participated in making the whole day such a great success,, And to our wonderful equine technicians who ran the pony strings like clockwork throughout the day..

We'll see you all next year x
